Tracks get old fast, and treadmills may take off your calories but they wont take you anywhere. You may be content to do your routine in front of the nightly news on those new flat screen high definition TVs in the gym, or you may be into running with your crew after work, but there is a whole new world waiting for you when your ready to break out of your old routine.
Whether it’s jumping over logs, moving around rocks or trying to catch your breathe in the humidity of the day, trail running can take a mundane workout to new levels. When your on the trail, nothing matters but you and your attempt to survive nature.
Trails Running: What Your Missing Out On
There are no distractions out here, no cell phones, no traffic lights, no drivers looking for a good laugh. When your on the trail your with nature, the sounds and the sights that so many forget about when they’re simply in their own neighborhood. Unlike the perfectly maintained lawns of suburbia or the smells of the city, nothing on a trail will ever be the same twice.
The sunrises are perfect, the weather, what nature intended it to be. When you get out on a trail, your in a totally different world; a world where news, kids and jobs, simply don’t exist. It’s the perfect place to lose yourself.

Unlike most flat streets and the same old incline hills you’ve been running, trails offer a different challenge each day. The uneven terrain will push your core to sustain its self in a whole manner. Your hamstrings and calves with have whole new imperfections on foot fall to deal with, and your feet will never want to feel the pavement again.

It’s easy to become used to a set exercise routine. For many, the idea of not being in a gym sounds unsettling. When you’re on a trail run, there won’t be a machine spilling out caloric info and heart rate every few minutes; there won’t be anything to distract you from your pain or increasing want to quit; you’ll simply have to persevere.
For many, the idea of driving out to a trail comes as a big downer. Most of you probably don’t live in an area where you can hit up an old fashioned dirt trail. But with a little bit of research and a, usually, short drive, trail running could become your next big thing.
It’s harder on the trail; without the normal signs of your run coming to a close you’ll have to force yourself to push onward. Things always change when your out of your old routine, and the new scenery may be just what you need to get that new PR., and, face the fact, is there anything more hardcore than being on a trail?
Keeping an Eye Out
Running on a trail isn’t for everyone. It is not now, nor will it ever be a quick fix workout. It is something that has to be learned and experienced, and if you don’t like it, you can always head back to your faithful routine. Also, such running comes with a higher risk of injury: more obstacles to fall over, the possibility of no cell phone service if injured, and the lack of others to lend a hand if you get into trouble, but who can resist the real call of nature? So if your ready for a new challenge, then lace up and give a run without a destination a try.
