So now Christians have resorted to burning copies of the Koran to make a point. General Petraeus tells CNN and the Wall Street Journal that this heinous act will put our American troops in danger. If even one American soldier dies because riots are caused overseas due to this Koran burning planned for September 11th, then we as Americans have learned nothing from that event.
The terrorists have won the war if this is how we treat the Muslim faith. Other countries don’t know that burning the Koran can be a sign of protest in the United States. More oppressive regimes, such as that of Saddam Hussein or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would have such protesters thrown in jail and never be heard from again.
Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center is going to burn the Koran anyway despite hearing what Petraeus said. How un-American is that? When we pride ourselves on having the finest men and women in uniform in the world we completely disrespect and disregard their training and commitment by engaging the enemy in this way.
We’re at war with terror. Let the troops who know how to fight it handle the situation. I don’t see Terry Jones joining the Armed Services anytime soon.
Terry Jones should know better than to burn copies of the Koran. Someone named Adolf Hitler burned books in the 1930s and then tried to exterminate an entire religious point of view by killing its people. Is this what Terry Jones is trying to say by burning the Koran? Does he want to exterminate Muslims?
If this is what Americans have learned over the past 65 years of fighting tyranny and injustice then we have failed the test of history miserably. Don’t add fuel to Terry Jones’ fire. For every Koran that he ends up burning, we should each read passages of the Koran that talk about peace, tolerance, and not taking religion to the level of zealousness.
Terry Jones has no business burning the Koran or even preaching in a Christian faith as far as I’m concerned. Terry Jones has spat on freedom of religion and freedom of speech because he is being spiteful towards something he doesn’t understand. Let us combat his waywardness with talk of peace and reconciliation instead of burning books.
