I had hoped to wait until a week or so before Christmas before I started going all out on the holiday decorations. After all, I could have sworn Halloween was just last week.
However, my family was pretty insistent about putting up our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. So, reluctantly, I drove over to my parents’ house and got our Holiday Time Colorado Pine Pre-Lit Christmas Tree out of their attic. Shortly after, however, I was reminded just how easy decorating was as a direct result of that tree.
We purchased the Holiday Time tree two years ago when we were walking through our local Walmart and happened to see 6.5 foot tall tree on sale for $35. At the time, we had another artificial tree (I don’t like using real trees because I would never remember to water them) that was both a major pain to assemble and to decorate; especially when it came to putting on the lights.
What I liked about this particular tree then and still like now is how easy it is to assemble. There are only three pieces that fit easily together and all we have to do is straighten out the branches on it and plug the individual electric cords into each other. The entire process takes us less than 10 minutes a year and, once we’re done, all we have to do is plug it in and put a few ornaments on it.
The thing that has really surprised me about this product is how well it has held up. As I mentioned before, this gets stored in my parents’ attic roughly 11 months out of the year. Their attic is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. In addition, the tree is stored in a vinyl storage bag rather than something more solid (like a storage tote) and will occasionally have items stacked on it.
When it is assembled, the tree has to withstand abuse from a toddler and a cat that doesn’t seem to know it isn’t a real tree. Oh, and on occasion, our oldest daughter will accidentally strike it with a ball or something. Despite all of this, the tree is still in one piece. It still has all its branches (minus one small piece of one that my wife accidentally broke off while putting it together this year) and, even as we approach our third Christmas with it, we have yet to change a single light bulb. In fact, I see no reason why this tree won’t be the last Christmas tree we will ever buy; or at least last us for several more years.
If you are out shopping for a new tree this year and happen to come across this tree or any other pre-lit tree from the Holiday Time brand, I would recommend purchasing it; especially if you are looking for a tree that will last you more than one holiday season.
