Cain Velasquez vs. Brock Lesnar for the UFC Heavyweight Championship-
Brock Lesnar is the UFC Heavyweight Champion. He was thumped by Shane Carwin at UFC 116, but came back in the second round to submit Carwin with a triangle choke. Brock Lesnar is huge, strong and quick for a big man. He is an excellent wrestler and grows as a UFC fighter every time he comes into the ring. On the other hand, Brock Lesnar is also full of pride. He believes he is already the greatest UFC fighter ever. He does not show respect to any of the other UFC Heavyweight fighters and he acts like a jerk. He naturally weighs fifty pounds heavier than Cain Velasquez.
Cain Velasquez will come into UFC 121 vs. Brock Lesnar as an excellent heavyweight undefeated UFC fighter. Cain quickly knocked out Antonia Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110 in February 2010. It was the knockout of the night. Cain Velasquez has speed and speed can kill power. Cain also has power with his speed. If he can move around and hit Brock Lesnar with his quick power he has a chance against Lesnar. If Lesnar gets a hold on Cain Velasquez and brings him to the ground, it will be a bad night for Cain.
This fight at UFC 121 between Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar will depend on three things. Does Cain Velasquez have the speed to keep Brock Lesnar at bay? Most importantly, does Cain Velasquez have the power to keep Brock Lesnar off of him? Thirdly, does Cain Velasquez have the endurance Shane Carwin did not have to finish off the champion? If he does, we may have a new UFC Heavyweight Champion on October 23, 2010 in California.
We cannot forget about the UFC Heavyweight Champion in this fight. Brock Lesnar’s last fight against Shane Carwin showed us some of his weaknesses. The speed and power of Shane Carwin was nearly too much for Lesnar at UFC 116. I thought Lesnar was going to be counted out a couple of times in the first round. I’m sure Lesnar is working on this in his training. He is a quick big man, but there are always quicker men in the Heavyweight division. Cain Velasquez is another one of these quick men. If Cain Velasquez has the power of Carwin, Lesnar could be in trouble in this fight. On the other hand, If Lesnar hits Velasquez it could be a quick fight. Expect Lesnar to try to get Cain Velasquez down on to the mat. Expect Cain Velasquez to try to hit Lesnar with quick powerful punches. There is an outside change Brock Lesnar’s pride will get in the way in this fight. He may try to out box the quicker man to prove he is the better fighter. This will not be a good idea for Lesnar.
I give Brock Lesnar the advantage over Cain Velasquez in their fight at UFC 121. Brock Lesnar is the UFC Heavyweight Champion. He has defended the championship against some of the toughest UFC heavyweight fighters around. He came back against Shane Carwin and showed the world how tough he really is as a UFC fighter. Lesnar is a world class wrestler with incredible power. If he gets Cain Velasquez to the ground, Cain will not stand a chance against the bigger man. If Brock Lesnar uses his brain, he should have the advantage over Velasquez. The problem with Lesnar is his disrespect of the other UFC fighters. He knows he is better than all of the other UFC heavyweights. He knows he is the best and the most powerful. This pride could be his downfall in fights like this one against Velasquez. This matchup at UFC 121 between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez should be fast and fun. There will be a lot of action. Don’t miss a second because the fight could end at any moment.
