Cain Velasquez has defeated Brock Lesnar in a surprising UFC 121 result but now many people are wondering who he will fight next.
The answer to that question is simple: the challenger will be Junior dos Santos.
Dos Santos is a Nogueira brothers understudy and a Brazilian who first burst onto the UFC scene when he KO’d Fabricio Werdum. Werdum is of course the heavyweight fighter who took out Fedor Emelianenko, handing the world’s number-one heavyweight his first proper loss.
Dos Santos has heavy hands and is perhaps the best boxer in the heavyweight division which is why he makes such an interesting challenger for the new champ Velasquez.
His jiu-jitsu is untested but training under the Nogueiras for so long should be enough to give him the ground skills needed to be competitive should Velasquez’s wrestling skills become a major factor.
But Cain showed he has the heart and skills of a champion in his win over Lesnar at UFC 121.
The UFC 121 result was surprising to many but many of the pro fighters on Sherdog.com, a popular MMA website, gave Velasquez the nod prior to the fight.
Velasquez is going to be one of the more entertaining heavyweight champions we’ve seen in some time though, that’s for sure. He has it all as he showed in his win over Lesnar at the 4:12 mark of the first round.
The UFC 121 Lesnar vs. Velasquez result is sure to be one that will be talked about for some time but now it’s back to the drawing board for Cain as he gets ready for what could actually be an even tougher opponent in his next fight.
