UFC 122 MMA Main Card Bouts Nov. 13, 2010
Okami Beats Marquardt
Yushin Okami beat Nate Marquardt in the main card of UFC 122 Saturday night in Germany. It was a tough fight that went the distance, but Okami was the aggressor throughout and was awarded a unanimous decision 29-28, 29-28, 30-27. Each man had one takedown in the first round, but could not get a decisive advantage from it, and the second round was equally tight with just a few strikes landing until a flurry in the final seconds. The third round was the difference, with Okami getting a cut on Marquardt’s face and clearly landing more punches. With the win Okami earned the right to face Anderson Silva or Vitor Belfort for the UFC middleweight title in early 2011.
Sadollah Outpoints Sobotta
Welterweights Amir Sadollah and Peter Sobotta met in the undercard. The fight went the full three rounds as Sobotta stood in and took his shots, but Sadollah’s mastery of the thousand strikes of Muay Thai was simply too much for him and Sadollah won in a unanimous decision. Sadollah moves to 4-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC.
Siver Defeats Winner in First Round Submission
Lightweights Dennis Siver and Andre Winner came out swinging, and Siver delivered a perfect left to the chin of winner just 90 seconds into the fight, taking him down. He briefly escaped, but Siver showed his wrestling skills by trapping Winner’s arm and working into a rear naked choke. Winner submitted at the 3:37 mark of the first round.
Soszynski Defeats Goran Reljic in Unanimous Decision
Light heavyweights Krzysztof Soszynski and Goran Reljic put on a show for the crowd, with both men delivering and taking punishment throughout the fight. But Soszynski eventually prevailed, grinding out the win 30-27 on all three judges cards.
Ludwig Beats Osipczak in Split-Decision
Welterweights Duane “Bang” Ludwig and Nick Osipczak started off the UFC 122 main card on the right note with a gem of a fight going to Ludwig in a somewhat controversial split-decision. Osipczak clearly won the first round, taking the fight to Ludwig and rocking him on a couple of occasions. But the second round slowed down and was close to even, and Ludwig came on strong in the third when Osipczak was clearly tiring. Ludwig won the split decision 29-28, 29-28, 28-29.
