When we start to try having a family we expect the best with no complications. Unfortunately some women have problems trying to conceive a child. There are medications and treatments to help with conception. But there are also some simple things you can try to increase your chances of getting pregnant. Many of the items on the list below are uncommon, and not even tried by many. Since these changes are easily done, and do not cost very much if anything they are wonderful ways to try to help increase your fertility.
Eat Ice Cream
If you are like me you do not need an excuse to eat ice cream. But research has shown women who eat full fat dairy products instead of non-fat have a lower rate of ovulatory infertility. Since most cows are milked when they are pregnant they pass on fertility enhancing hormones. Found in the full fat milk are hormones such as progesterone and estradiol. Just remember that too much full fat cheese or butter is not good for the arteries. Once serving a day is enough to be beneficial.
See Your Dentist
Most people have heard of gingivitis, where you suffer from inflamed gums. If you do not get it treated it can turn into a more serious infection called periodontal. If this happens it is possible for inflammatory substances to go through the bloodstream and interfere with your reproductive hormones. So if you are planning to try to get pregnant regular cleanings and dental checkups can be helpful. A visit to the dentist will help keep your teeth healthy, and could help increase your chances to conceive.
Banish Trans Fat From Your Diet
Trans fats which are found in many foods, especially fast foods and processed foods to extend the shelf life can hinder your fertility. Trans fats are just bad news all around, they raise your cholesterol, and can cause an inflammatory response in your body that could impair ovulation. To avoid these trans fats you will need to read labels and beware of partially hydrogenated oil and vegetable oil, they both contain it. Fast food chains are probably the biggest offenders, most use partially hydrogenated oils to fry their foods. A study from the Harvard School of Public Health showed women who ingested trans fats were 70 percent less likely to get pregnant. The upside of this is eating more healthy and avoiding fast food is better in the long run for you and your baby.
Eat Salmon Instead of Steak
If you are trying to boost your fertility eating some salmon could be beneficial. Salmon is full of monounsaturated fat, a heart healthy fat that is one best source for Omega-3 fatty acid DHA. These Omega-3 fatty acids help increase the blood flow to the uterus, which in turn increases your chances on implantation and pregnancy. If you have a choice pick wild salmon over farm-raised, the farm-raised salmon has a higher amount of PCB’s. PCB’s are a class of man made chemicals, commonly found in pesticides and they affect the way estrogens and androgens work. Which increases the chance of problems when trying to get pregnant.
Use Fertility Friendly Makeup
Our makeup is not something we usually think about when we are trying to start a family. It is uncommon to see makeup on the lists of things to think about when trying to conceive. Many cosmetics contain a chemical called Butyl benzyl phthalates. They are commonly found in perfume, nail polish and lipstick. These chemicals can imitate estrogen, which could interfere with reproductive hormones. This does not mean you have to give up wearing makeup, you might want to check safer alternatives.
