Are you always looking for somewhere new and different to travel for your next holiday, but most destinations seem to be over price. Want to get close to nature without having to travel around the world. There is no need for a Passport at these great holiday dentations. I have some ideas for you to keep the your travel budgets in check and to meet every different type of travelers.
For the Environmentalist:
St. John’s Maho Bay Camps – Situated in the warm Caribbean waters located a short taxi and ferry ride from St. Thomas it is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life. This trip is not for the average traveler, if you are willing to ruff it a bit with your closest friends or family this is the spot for you nestled in the middle of a National Park. After your plane ride to St. Thomas travelers need to take the $6-$12 St. Thomas – St. John Passenger Ferry to Cruz Bay the Main Port on St. John’s where the taxis wait to take you to Maho Bay Camps, look for Frett’s Taxi they are the best operator in the area. If you are planning on staying in the Concordia Eco- Tents your are better off renting a car, however rental car rates are a bit inflated of standard rates in the States and you better be an expert driver to navigate these roads.
The curvy narrow roads on the ride from Cruz Bay will just be the start of your adventure. Once you arrive the friendly staff give you a map, no keys at this Eco-Lodge, you will be on your way to hike the many stairs to locate your tent for the rest of your stay. No need to spend money here the lunch shack 30 stairs from the beach will make you a sandwich for just a few dollars, but remember each tent in Maho bay allows you to cool all your own food inside the tent.
Maho Bay Camp offers a few different housing choices from Maho Tent Cottages able to sleep three adults starting from $135 per night for double occupancy to Eco-Tents $155-$185 per night (for current prices check www.maho.org). Concordia Eco-Tents the Eco-Tents offer you a bit of a upgrade from the standard tent cottages including private toilets, bigger cooking & kitchen area. Downfall to the Concordia Eco-Tents they are located on the southeastern side of St. John a short drive from the Maho Bay Camps, far from the Camp itself. Most major Carriers fly to St. Thomas; Spirit Airlines is always offering discount airfares from most major airports at www.spiritair.com.
So break out the bug net put your hiking shoes on. Escape from everything and give Maho Bay Camps a try.
