Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year. That doesn’t mean that you can’t use something recycled as a gift for this special holiday. There are many gifts of recycled items that are very special.
You may already have some heirloom jewelry from family elders that you could recycle into a fabulous Valentine’s Day gift. Or if you ask around you may find a family elder willing to give you a piece of family heirloom jewelry to give as a gift to your special person on Valentine’s Day. They might get a lot of pleasure from seeing a younger person wearing their piece of jewelry. Just make sure the relationship seems permanent in nature before using family jewelry as gifts.
The world is abuzz that Prince William decided to use his mother’s engagement ring to propose to Kate Middleton. The ring must have enormous significance to William. He has probably revitalized an old trend too, that of using family heirlooms to make special days even more special by gifting significant jewelry.
Gifts from Scrap Wood
It is easy to find scrap wood in the garbage. I have often seen wood next to the garbage cans when out for a walk. Most people have some scrap wood hanging out in the shed or garage too. So if you can’t find any, ask around someone you know probably has some scrap wood they could give you. If you have any old dressers that are not in use, that wood can be used too.
There are many gifts that can be made from scrap wood. And something hand made is a far more valuable and sentimental gift than anything you could purchase from a store. Gift that can be created from scrap wood include a jewelry box, a picture frame, a memory box to hold items related to the relationship like love letters. Other ideas to use scrap wood include making a plaque that spells out the word “love,” or creating a birdhouse that will have both of your initials painted on it surrounded by a heart, or creating a small bookcase or shelves to hold something the person collects.
Items from Thrift Shops
Anything at a thrift shop has had a prior owner and is thus recycled. And you can find fabulous gifts at thrift shops. Many thrift shops have brand new items with the tags still on. Some people get gifts they don’t like and just donate the brand new stuff to their local thrift shop. Thus you can find brand new clothing, shoes, and other fashion items at a thrift store and get a fabulous recycled gift at a low cost.
Also, you can find beautiful antiques at thrift stores that would be a special gift. There are also many decorative items at thrift shops such as candles, candelabras, and china plates that could be used to set the scene for a romantic evening and used for the duration of the relationship.
A book can be a very special book. You can find great used books at flea markets, thrift stores, garage and estate sales, and book sales at libraries. Many used books are in perfect condition and it is impossible to tell they were purchased used rather than new from a bookstore.
So find a recycled book and create a special gift. Check the local newspaper to find out when the library book sale will be. My local library has amazing book sales. The first table on the way in holds the large art, history, and other special large books. They are all priced below $7 dollars, even though their original retail costs range very high, some of them over $50.
To give books as gifts think about what the gift recipient is interested in and try to find a book on those topics. Or get a book about a place you would like to travel to as a couple.
