I admit, I am a fan of the Twilight Saga. I enjoyed reading the series and, aside from the first movie, I enjoyed the on screen productions. I am also a huge fan of movies in general. I love every type of movie and a good parody is always on my list to see. We can scratch Vampires Suck off the list of good parodies.
First seeing the commercials for Vampires Suck excited me, I’ll admit. Finally, every aspect of the series that many have been pulling apart was going to be brought to the fore front and laughable. The only thing laughable was the lack of creativity of the movie. The funniest parts in the movie are exactly what you see in the commercial and nearly nothing else.
Jenn Proske makes her screen debut as “Becca”, a new comer to the town of Sporks, living with her father, and has to choose between Edward and Jacob. Edward, of course being a vampire, and Jacob a were-chihuahua. Jenn does her best impersonation of Kristin Stewart, who plays Bella in the Twilight Saga, but it makes the movie even more annoying with her facial expressions, head movements which really are not congruent with her seemingly flat affect. Long gone are the days of good, enjoyable parodies, such as Scary Movie and Hot Shots, the movies that followed the storyline with subtle references and jokes instead of over exaggerations and bad acting.
Aside from the acting and jumbled jokes, they managed to cram and mix two movies into an hour and a half. Even though things seem to happen fast, as they are cramming basically four hours of storyline into ninety minutes, it is slow moving and often found myself bored. I miss the laugh out loud parodies where you walk away from it talking about it the next day and still laughing instead of shaking your head and wondering how much popcorn you ate.
If you are really intent on seeing the movie, I highly suggest you wait for it to come to video or the $3 DVD bin at the store.
