In any single-elimination contest, there always has to be a first loser. On Tuesday evening, Season 11 of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars named its first loser — the first person (and their partner) voted off — on its first results show. Since the final numbers are always uncertain, there is always a chance that an odds-on favorite can be sent home. David Hasselhoff, actor and star of such hit shows as “Knight Rider” and “Baywatch,” was Season 11’s first person voted off and eliminated from the competition. And, as always, there is that lingering question after the results announcement has been made: Did Dancing With The Stars fans make the right choice?
Did David Hasselhoff deserve to go home first? According to the judges’ overall score, he did. Hasselhoff and partner Kym Johnson scored a 15 out of a possible 30 after dancing the cha-cha-cha to Tom Jones’ “Sex Bomb.” But he wasn’t alone on the bottom. He was joined by Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino (partner: Karina Smirnoff) and Margaret Cho (partner: Louis Van Amstel).
But where comedian Margaret Cho looked as if she couldn’t decide whether to be goofy or serious (and really ruined what could have been a pretty good performance by going with slapstick) and Jersey Shore‘s The Situation couldn’t stop with the fist-pumping, David Hasselhoff’s performance was simply awful. He began the performance looking like the Terminator going after his prey on the dance floor and soon devolved into an exterminator stomping around, killing invisible insects. Even the incomparable Kym Johnson could do little to make the big guy look good.
The good news is: Comedy Central already did their David Hasselhoff roast…
Hasselhoff was voted off after the incomparable Carlos Santana performed his classic hit, “Oye Como Va” and from his latest album, “Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time.” He was joined on the Beatles’ classic “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” by vocalist Indie.Arie and on the Def Leppard classic “Photograph” by Chris Daughtry. Daughtry also performed on the results show with his own band as they performed their hit song, “September.”
Did the voters get it right first time out in the Dancing With The Stars season results opener? Did they vote off the right star? Sure, they did. And if they really meant to send home Margaret Cho, Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino, Florence Henderson, Bristol Palin, or Michael Bolton — they have several more weeks to make amends.
Watch David Hasselhoff and Kym Johnson cha-cha-cha and decide if David Hasselhoff should have been the first contestant voted off Dancing With The Stars in Season 11.
