The third (and second female) character to be introduced to Nexon America’s free-to-play action MMORPG Vindictus was Evie. Seen either with a scythe or a staff, Evie is a powerful spell-caster, and the only one of her kind. This powerful yet young sorceress hails from a noble family to the east, though she doesn’t care to speak of them.
As a spell caster, Evie is most known for her use of the Staff, which allows her to cast various magic spells from a long range. However, she also may get into close combat with the Scythe, a deadly weapon that unleashes several special attacks of its own as well as letting Evie blink out of harm’s way.
Evie’s strategies in battle differ greatly, depending on whether she uses a staff or a scythe. A staff-wielding Evie will want to keep distance from her enemies when possible, but a scythe-wielding Evie will act as a battle-mage, closing quarters with her enemy like other melee classes. Evie’s defenses also come in the form of Mana Shields, five special barriers which disappear when hit depending on the severity of the attack, and recharge approximately 30 seconds for each. Evie is also capable of healing herself or her allies, and even resurrecting them from the dead, though this does not make her role solely as a healer.
Evie is unique as a staff wielder, in that her normal and smash melee attacks, along with her jumps, cost no stamina. This means that Evie is absolutely welcome to get in melee when she can safely do so. Her best bet, however, is to use her cadre of spells – to assault her enemy. Evie can also use alchemy, which allows her to summon minions to the battlefield, anywhere from a simple turret to a powerful fire golem. Evie’s most powerful ranged spell, perhaps, is Firebolt, and Icebolt can be used to deter pursuing enemies.
When wielding a Scythe, Evie is a deadly close-combat opponent, and her skills include the ability to drain health from her enemies, as well as drain spirits that will join and fight alongside her for a short amount of time. With a Scythe, Evie is also capable of using Blink, a skill exactly like Lann’s Slip Dash ability which moves her quickly away from combat – even letting her pass through solid objects and enemies. However, Evie loses her ability to cast most damage dealing spells, except for Gravity Inversion, which lifts enemies around her into the air before slamming them into the ground.
– Important stats are Intelligence and Agility, regardless of what weapon Evie chooses.
– If choosing to wield a Scythe, you will also want to specialize in Strength and Will.
– Build your magic skills, even if you intend to play with a Scythe. Many Scythe skills are magic based, and it gives you greater versatility in a group.
– Lend support to your teammates – be the one willing to use a staff and cast spells and heal in the back.
– While Evie will usually wear light armor (cloth, and occasionally leather), she is capable of wearing heavy armor with the right training.
