I personally loved the God of War series, not only was it fun to play but the story interwove a lot of Greek cosmogenesis and anthropogenesis (and end), as well as great story retelling. From the first God of War to the last, there is a teaching amidst the animated bloodshed and gore. God of War 3 is violent, but evenhandedly shows the outcome of violence.
After, slaying Ares in game one, and the Sisters of Fate in number two, Ghost of Spartan Kratos returns with a host of titans (natural unbound forces) and riding mother Gaia ascends Mt Olympus, where awaits Kratos aged father Zeus. Zeus, on high, speaking with brothers Hades and Poseidon and the remaining Olympians about the war on the providence he has created out of chaos. Zeus, issuing their orders…Poseidon strikes first.
Poseidon, leaping from the heights into the sea becomes a Voltron made of water horse powered crab, trying to pull Gaia and gnat Kratos to the depths. Kratos, removing the God from the machine proceeds to put out Poseidon’s eyes, and tosses his corpse into the sea which immediately rises and floods the earth. Catching back up to Gaia, the two reaching the top of the mountain, meet Zeus, who sends Gaia and Kratos thunderstruck back down the mountain. Gaia, who no longer needs “pawn” Kratos lets him drop down into Hades realm.
Enraged Kratos, after slaying every god from hot head Hades to drunken Hera, the Earth is now in horrible shape as the gods who maintained them are now terminated. Upon finally reaching Pandora locked in Daedalus’s labyrinth, Kratos, Zeus and Gaia engage in Armageddon, where the last man standing literally is Kratos. Athena, translated (and who was orchestrating this all along), appears to Kratos, and ask him to return the hope she had hidden. Kratos, says that the box was empty, and taking his own life, releases hope to all(?), leaving Athena disappointed. As the credits roll, a trail of blood is seen leaving the abandon sword…
In the end everything returned to Chaos. Every soul that Kratos slew in the game, let him know what he was (and the player understands). Violet video games are for the most part “responsibly” made, and not just wanton killing. Games nowadays have clear ratings, as to their content, but it is up to parents primarily to watch over their kids. The only real danger in video games is playing them alone too much.
