The VMA awards 2010 winners were not the big story. No matter how much the VMA awards 2010 winners won, the winners would not overshadow last year’s show. All the attention was on Kayne West, Taylor Swift, and how their new songs addressed last year’s major incident. However, in terms of awards, several other performers hoped to win big and not be interrupted in their speeches. As it turned out, the VMA awards 2010 winners were led by the most-nominated artist, as Lady Gaga’s bad romances won big.
Although Swift and West were the dominant topics of gossip, Lady Gaga was the biggest topic for this year’s actual show. She came in with a leading 13 nominations, including two nods for the Video of the Year. Of course, much of the speculation around her was on what she would wear, and she had a different outfit on each time she took the stage.
Since Lady Gaga led the VMA awards 2010 winners list, she had to go on stage a lot. She took home eight trophies, including the big one for Video of the Year. It was “Bad Romance” that got honored over her own “Telephone” and Eminem’s “Not Afraid.” Her other honors included Best Pop Video and Best Female Video — which she accepted in a dress from the late Alexander McQueen.
Although the 2009 show still hung over things, the VMA awards 2010 show, and its winners, were defined by Lady Gaga. Of course, given West and Swift’s new songs, even Lady Gaga found it hard to get attention.
While Lady Gaga made off with much of the hardware, there were many other names on the VMA awards 2010 winners list. Eminem lost Video of the Year, but “Not Afraid” was selected as Best Male Video and Best Hip Hop Video. Beyonce also got honored this time around for her collaboration on “Telephone” with Lady Gaga.
Justin Bieber spread his fever to the VMAs by winning for Best New Artist. 30 Seconds to Mars won for their rock video “Kings and Queens,” while “Empire State of Mind” was honored for its cinematography.
But the majority of the VMA awards winners list had “Bad Romance” on it, as the video took home seven trophies by itself. After its last win, Lady Gaga came out in a “meat dress” and revealed that her next album will be called “Born This Way.”
Considering the success of “Bad Romance,” even Gaga may have a hard time topping it — but she is sure to go overboard in trying.
