Do you love animals and have some free time on your hands? Give back to the community and help animals at the same time by volunteering with the City of Palo Alto’s Animal Services!
Animal Services depends on volunteers to help provide extra care, exercise, companionship, and training to animals that are waiting to be adopted. There are a number of volunteer positions that help staff and assist in the daily care of animals. Volunteers help visitors to Animal Services, make appointments in Animal Services clinics, explain local animal control laws to the public, and help reunite pets and owners.
Other volunteer positions where volunteers work directly with the animals are either a dog, cat, or rabbit attendant. Those in an attendant position work two-hour shifts once a week. Those working as an office assistant work thee-hour shifts once a week. Animal Services asks for at least a six month time commitment. Foster volunteer positions are also available. This type of volunteer would temporarily take an animal into their home to provide extra care to the animal until it is adoptable. A foster volunteer needs to be home for most of the day to watch the animal.
