Most people want to travel cheaply but can not seem to figure how to do it or when. I personally love to travel and will let you in on some of my biggest secrets for traveling cheaply. The top three secrets to cheaper traveling are the time of year you travel, the places you stay, and the food you eat all play a major role in the money you will save traveling.
1. Time of year
First I would like to discuss the best time of year to travel and that is the month of October. You can get the best deals and the best rates such as 50 percent or more discount traveling in October. I understand that this will not work for everyone but for those of you who it can work for this is something to keep in mind. My best example is cruises. I love cruises but they can be rather expensive in the summer months. A four night cruise from Royal Caribbean Cruises in July may cost $500 where that same cruise from Royal Caribbean Cruises can cost $150 in October.
2. Where to stay
Lets face it, we all like luxury such as the Ritz Carlton or The Bellagio, whether you admit it or not but not everyone can afford luxury. Do not overspend on a room because chances are you will not be in there long enough for it to matter. A nice comfort Inn for $44 a night or Microtel for $49 a night will be just fine. Again, travel in October to get the best room rates. One of my favorite vacations you can take is a camping vacation. For $12 a night you can stay at a camp site in the mountains of Colorado, have some of the best family or friend times you ever had, and save a lot of money in the process. All you need is a tent for $50 and some cheap $20 sleeping bags and you are set. The rest of the items you need such as tooth brushes or shampoo you can buy right at the camp site.
3. What you eat
What you eat and where while vacationing can really rack up the bill fast. You do not need to eat out every night at a five star restaurant that can cost $200 a meal while on vacation. One of my best kept secrets for traveling is that I bring along a George foreman grill that cost $40 for a good one, and keep in the car or suitcase. When I get to where I will be staying I find a grocery store and buy some food for $10 or bring a cooler full of food I bought in advance and cook in the hotel room. I do this all the time when when I travel and it saves so much money. Money that I would rather be spending on something else.
Those are my three biggest secrets to traveling cheaply. There are plenty more money saving ideas but these are my top three. Above all else have fun while vacationing as they could possibly be some of the best times of your life.
