The Washington Redskins play an NFC North team for the second week in a row when they play the Detroit Lions October 31st in Detroit’s Ford Field. The Washington Redskins are coming off of a hard fought win against the Chicago Bears 17-14 in a game which included four interceptions for Dante Hall. The Detroit Lions are coming off of a bye week and will getting their quarterback Matt Stafford back from his second shoulder separation in two years.
Washington Redskins Offense vs Detroit Lions Defense
Donovan McNabb and his Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan have done much with little in the receiving department. McNabb has used every receiver and running back in most games and despite injuries to key players Clinton Portis and Chris Cooley.
Washington Redskins running back Ryan Torain has filled in admirably for Portis but Cooley is tough to replace at the tight end position. The good news for McNabb is that Cooley should be back to normal for this game against the Detroit Lions.
The Detroit Lions defense has improved ten fold over last season with the addition of Ndamukong Suh and Kyle Vanden Bosch on the front defensive line. Coverage has been the weakness of the Detroit Lions defense. Detroit rests up after a bye week and this could advantageous for a banged up secondary. The Washington Redskins offense has a slight edge over the Detroit Lions defense.
Detroit Lions Offense vs Washington Redskins Defense
Matt Stafford is expected to return in this game after the Detroit Lions bye week and it may take some time for him to get back in sync with the offense. Jahvid Best should also be better after a week of rest and relaxation and it could be a plan to run the ball while Stafford gets acclimated to the offense once again. The Detroit Lions run game is averaging less than 100 yards a game but the Washington Redskins pass defense is still lacking despite Dante Hall’s performance last weekend.
The 3-4 defense of the Washington Redskins was talked about much during the off season and the controversy with Albert Haynesworth. The defense is giving up almost 300 yards passing per game along with over 113 yards rushing. The Washington Redskins combined defense is giving up the second most yardage in the NFL. The Detroit Lions offense has the edge over the Washington Redskins defense.
Washington Redskins vs Detroit Lions -2: Pick Against the Spread & Final Breakdown
The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook posted the Detroit Lions as a one point favorite on Sunday and they were quickly bet to a two point favorite. The line move could be related to the optimism of bettors on the health of Matt Stafford and the fact that the Washington Redskins offense looked a little rough against the Chicago Bears defense.
It also could be related to the Detroit Lions performance against the spread. The Lions are 5-1 against the spread overall and 2-0 at home against the spread. Take the Washington Redskins and the two points over the Detroit Lions and they will win straight up.
