Auction Hunters is a new TV show on Spike TV premiering Tuesday, November 9. The new television series will follow Allen and Ton, two men who bid on the contents of public storage units. If they win, they take the stuff home and can sell the items for profit.
Each day 10,000 public self-storage units go up for sale. When this happens, the owners of the contents of the storage unit have defaulted on the unit. They have stopped paying rent on the storage unit. After a certain time, the storage unit manager can auction off the contents to help pay for the rent that was never paid.
The highest bidder has a certain amount of time to remove the contents, usually in the neighborhood of 24 to 48 hours. They must take it all, whether it’s junk or treasure. Sometimes the owner of the storage facility asks winning bidders to leave any personal papers or photos to be returned to the owners.
The new show Auction Hunters will show auctions in process and what Allen and Ton end up with as the high bidders. Auction Hunters also chronicles how Ton and Allen determine the value of items and how to sell the goods they find at auctions. A tagline on the tv show trailer: “They bid, they dig, they sell.” According to the Spike TV website, Allen and Ton “can make up to a quarter million dollars per year buying abandoned storage units. You can too.”
