The pool parties are over and many developments are stalled, but crime is still alive. Here’s a recent sample that might have been prevented along with tips. Watching out for you, Williamsburg, by helping you watch your back.
Aug. 29, 1 p.m., Bedford Ave. — Crime: Pick-pocketing. Victim: Praying man. Action: A man was praying in his synagogue. Perp snatched his wallet out of his jacket. Despicable! Loot: Credit cards and $120.
Tip: Carry cash and credit cards on your person: front pocket, boot, bra, etc.
Aug. 29, 4:15 a.m., Leonard St. — Crime: Mugging. Victim: A drunken, stumbling man. Action: Perps whacked victim in the face and the back of the head with a foreign object. Loot: Empty wallet and some jewelry. Note: Man could have been killed or disabled for a piddling.
Tip: Don’t walk the streets alone during the wee hours of the morning, drunk or sober. Walk with friends. No friends? Take a cab.
Aug 29, 2 a.m., Humboldt St. — Crime: Mugging. Victim: Street-walking man. Action: Thugs accosted victim and demanded jewelry. Victim called one thug “little” and was hit over the head with a firearm. Loot: None reported.
Tip: When confronted by thugs, avoid confrontation. Don’t incite your own injury. Try to escape. Can’t escape? Try reason. Can’t reason? Hand over the loot. You’re worth more than it.
Aug 27, Weekend, Metropolitan Ave.—Crime: Home robbery. Victim: Tenants. Action: Tenants went away for the weekend and came home to find the place trashed. Loot: Personal belongings.
Tip: Get a house-sitter. No money? Just get a friend to hang out at your place for the weekend.
