Kobe’s Week 12 NFL Picks
I had my best week to date Week 11 going 4-0 bringing my record up to 21-23 for the season. I am well on my way to ending this season on the plus side.
The big news from Week 11 was the overdue firing of Brad Childress by the Minnesota Vikings. He seemingly had lost the locker room and I have to say that the throwing away of a 3rd round pick on Randy Moss was extremely questionable. To recap the Randy Moss deal: 3rd pick for Randy sent to New England then released 4 weeks later, New England gets Randy a few years earlier from the Raiders for a 4th round pick.
We know that Brett Favre will be Quarterback this up-in-coming week when the Vikes take the field against the Redskins, which was stated by Interim Head Coach Leslie Frazier on Tuesday. Even though I am not picking this game I will say that I look for the Vikings to play inspired football.
Moving on to Week 12 picks:
Game #1- Green Bay @ Atlanta :
Green Bay has effectively killed two coaches in a 3 week span and both came with lopsided wins beating Dallas 45-7 and then throttling the Vikings 31-3. The Pack is on a 4 game win streak allowing 8.5 points per game with the Offense cranking out 28 points per game during the win streak. Note their signature win coming at the New Meadowlands beating the Jets 9-0.
To those that don’t know, Matt Ryan has a home win record of 18-1 with his last and only loss coming against Denver in his rookie season. To add to that the Falcons are playing great football with the pass Defense being maybe the weakest part of their game. I will point out that the Falcons have the tools to grind out games and wear down teams on the ground, which could really hurt the Packers.
What If: If the Packers can keep things rolling and can control time of possession they have a chance to keep the Falcons Offense off the field and win the game.
Predictions: Packers 24 Falcons 28
Game #2: Philadelphia @ Chicago :
This game features Philly’s 2nd ranked Offense vs. the Bears 3rd rank Defense. Michael Vick has been absolutely great and although he didn’t put up world beater numbers last week against the Giants he found a way to win the game.
The Bears are playing better on Offense but still inconsistent and are still trying to figure out a way to get Matt Forte more involved. The best move the Bears have made is putting Hester back in the return game. He is a threat each time he touches the ball.
What if: If the Bears Offense can play consistently and keep Vick off the field they have a chance to win.
Prediction: Eagles 24 Bears 20
Game #3 – Tennessee @ Houston :
This turns out to be a very important Divisional game for both team. The Titans are limping along at QB right now with possible team chemistry issues complements of Vince Young who is now out for the rest of the season compounded with the fact that the starter this week is Rusty Smith because Kerry Collins is injured. It’s a good thing that the Titans have a running back like Chris Johnson they can lean on.
Since beating the Colts in week 1 the Texans have only won 3 games but still only find themselves out of 1st place in the Division by 2 games and 1 game behind the Titans.
The Texans are on a 4 game losing streak but the Titans could be the fix that they need because of the match-up problems. The Titans Defense is rank 24th in yards given up while the Texans is ranked 8th Offensively and I don’t look for the Titans Offense to be effective compounding the match-up problem for the Titans.
What if: If Rusty Smith can come out and play well to open up the run game for Johnson they can win this game.
Prediction: Titans 17 Texans 27
Game #4 – New Orleans @ Dallas:
My one Turkey Day Pick.
The Cowboys are playing inspired ball since the firing of Phillips, beating an injury plagued Giants and the Lions. Kitna has played well and the Offense is putting up good numbers not to mention that Dez Bryant is turning out to a great playmaker.
The Cowboy Defense has not played well this season allowing 27.1 points per game but the last 2 games they held the Giants to 20 points and the Lions to 19 points. Those are not great numbers but an improvement.
The Saints are hitting their stride and looking like the team that won it all last year and to top it off they are getting back Reggie Bush which will make the Offense that much more dynamic.
The Defense is playing outstanding this season ranking 4th in total yards allowed and always put a lot of pressure on QB’s with the Blitz packages they run. Look for the Saints to cause turnovers this week by putting constant pressure on Kitna.
What if: If the Cowboys can slow down the Saints Offense and play ball control Offense they can win this game.
Prediction: Saints 31 Cowboys 21
I would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe Thanksgiving and also thank everyone for reading my articles. I would also like to wish my son and his team the best of luck with their game on Thanksgiving Day, Go Lancers.
