Tom Bergeron and head judge Len Goodman both chided Bruno Tonioli for his harsh comments to Michael Bolton last night. And when the night was over it turns out that Bruno may have been crude but he wasn’t wrong. No one disputes the quality of his vocal skills but on the dance floor, Michael Bolton lacks rhythm, musicality and presence.
Wherever Sarah Palin goes, controversy seems to follow. While cohost Brooke Burke was talking to Derek and Audrina Monday night in the celebaquarium, the crowd could be heard booing. The next segment was of host Tom Bergeron talking with Palin. Many believed that Palin was being booed as they set up the next segment. To settle the controversy, DWTS showed some unedited footage which clearly showed the studio audience was displeased with the scores the judges had given Derek and Audrina. When Palin was introduced, the audience burst into cheers. Controversy over.
Week 2’s elimination program was a far cry from last week’s show. Musical performers included Janelle Monae and Seal. Janelle Monae appeared early and performed her smash hit Tightrope. Seal sang The Weight of My Mistake from his new album Commitment.
Creative directors Rich and Tone designed the Macy’s Stars of Dance number. While it was technically a dance routine, it reminded me of Cirque du Soleil routine with contortionists and aerial performers. It was definitely entertaining but I wonder how contortionists and aerial performers qualify as dancers.
Next week the dancers must tell a story with their dance which often brings some unusual and entertaining routines. Check back for frequent DWTS updates.
