On the sixth week of “Dancing with the Stars,” the couples had to perform rock ‘n’ roll themed paso dobles and tangos. Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy held the top spot for the second week in a row while Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough fell to third to last place. Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya also fell to the very bottom. Their surprising fall led to tense moments on the results show. Will they rebound with the help of viewer or will they fall by the wayside?
Kurt and Anna were the first couple saved on the result show, followed by Bristol and Mark. The judges wanted to see Bristol and Mark dance again after receiving their highest scores of the competition. Viewers had to wait to the end of the show to see if Jennifer and Derek would dance another week on the show.
Heart sang their 1977 hit “Barracuda,” continuing the rock ‘n’ roll theme. Professional dancers performed the paso doble to the song. After almost 40 years in the business, Ann Wilson still has her signature voice.
Rockers Bret Michaels, Alice Cooper and Dee Snider weighted in on the dance performances of the remaining competitors. Macy’s “Stars of Dance” featured performers from “The School of Rock” singing a medley “We Will Rock You” and “School’s Out.” The “Stars of Dance” showcase was interesting because it had elements of ballroom, contemporary and Broadway dancing.
Kylie Minogue sang “Get Out of My Way” from her new album entitled “Aphrodite.” It hit number one on the club charts. It looked like she was lip synching or singing over her own voice. I hadn’t seen her since her bout with cancer, so whether she was singing or not, it was good to see her smiling and healthy. I don’t think her performance fit in with the rock theme. Her music is more pop and club music. I think of rock as edgy and intense.
At the end of the show, Jennifer and Derek, Kyle and Lacey, and Audrina and Tony were in jeopardy. The six-week curse was in effect as one of the strongest couples in the competition definitely went home. Anyone of these couples would be a loss to the show. Audrina and Tony went home, even though their overall scores had them in second place on Monday.
I am honestly disappointed with the elimination of Audrina and Tony. Although I’m not a fan of her on “The Hills,” Audrina was one of my picks for the top four because of her steady improvement over the weeks. At the same time, I’m glad Derek and Jennifer were saved.
Taylor Swift and Rod Stewart perform for the 200th episode, a two-day celebration that airs on Monday, November 1 and Tuesday, November 2. Six favorites from past season also return as guest judges — Helio Castroneves, Kelly Osbourne, Emmitt Smith, Drew Lachey, Mel B and Gilles Marini. Kristi Yamaguchi and Apolo Anton Ohno will return as group dance leaders. The result show airs an hour earlier because it’s Election Night and local channels will be recapping local and national elections.
