Kobe’s Week 7 NFL Picks
A recap of my week 6 picks: My lone win came with taking the Dolphins over the Packers otherwise the Ravens, Falcons, and Raiders were all losers. With the way this season is playing out, it’s very difficult to make picks, for instance who thought Kansas City would be 3-2 and leading their division and Dallas would be 1-4 at the bottom of their division.
The great thing about this season is that every division has 2-3 teams within a game of 1st place, putting more of an emphasis on how important each game is.
Moving on to Week 7, lets look at the Bye teams first; Lions, Colts, Jets, and Texans get the week off.
Game #1 Pittsburgh @ Miami:
The Steelers got Ben back in week 6 and he didn’t even look like he missed a beat going 16 of 27 for 257 yards and 3 TDs. The difference, as the fans have been saying, is that Ben acts humbled and less cocky than prior to the suspension. Watching his presser after the game he indeed looked humbled as well.
The Steelers D didn’t miss a beat either, playing as well as they have ever played with very physical brand of football. The only thing the D needs is for the Quarterback not to make mistakes and lose the game for them.
The Dolphins are coming of a big win in O.T. against the Packers on the road and even though the Packers are wounded right now they are a tough out at home.
On both sides of the ball the Dolphins are playing well but I think their offense will struggle this week against that tough Steeler D. The Dolphins are not putting a ton of points on the board and that will be magnified this week.
What If: As you know most of my “What Ifs” involve the QB play and this is no different. If the O line can give Chad Henne the time he needs and the running game can get going the Dolphins will be a tough out at home.
Prediction: Steelers 17 Dolphins 10
Game #2 New England @ San Diego:
Any thoughts of the Patriots losing a step without Randy Moss were put to rest with an overtime victory over the Ravens. Deion Branch and Tom Brady didn’t seem to lose the Chemistry they had that helped them win Super Bowl 39 with Branch leading the team in receptions in his 1st game back with the Patriots. Remember who the Super Bowl MVP was? You guessed It, Deion Branch.
The Chargers are what can be termed as a “Hot Mess”, they cannot run the ball with any consistency and the Special Teams is a complete train wreck. By the way, L.T is looking like a rookie again for the Jets.
As we all know, the Chargers always get off to a slow start and I believe they put it together at home this week. The stats tell me otherwise but this team is to talented to be held down and I believe that the Pats will miss Moss a bit this week.
What if: The Patriots D can put consistent pressure on Rivers and the Chargers running game continues to struggle look for a Pats Victory.
Prediction: Patriots 24 Chargers 27
Game #3 St. Louis @ Tampa Bay:
I look at this and still cannot believe this is considered a big game this week but it really is. Tampa comes in at 3-2 and the Rams come in at 3-3 and both set in the top 10 on the NFC and both are within a game of 1st place in their respective divisions.
Spagnuolo and Ken Flajole have the Rams Defense playing fast and looking better than in recent years with the one let down game was against my Detroit Lions. The D ranks 3rd in points allowed keeping them in close in games.
Sam Bradford isn’t putting up blazing numbers but with Steven Jackson running the ball Sam doesn’t need to put up big numbers for the Offense to be successful. Sam’s number one receiver option is Danny Amendola, to give you an idea of who he has as receiver threats, overall pretty impressive all things considered.
Josh Freeman is making Tampa look really good with taking him in the 1st round of 2009. He is making the smart decisions by pulling the ball down when needed to pick up 1st downs and overall just managing the game well. The Buc’s look like they have their franchise Quarterback they have been missing.
I think this week the Rams take another step forward and the Buc’s fall back to earth a little further. Considering both Quarterbacks are young the Difference will be Steven Jackson.
What if: If Tampa can hold Steven Jackson under 100 and out of the End Zone and Tampa’s run Offense can show consistency look for a Bucs victory.
Prediction: St. Louis 21 Tampa Bay 14
Game # 4: Washington @ Chicago
I think this is a toss-up game; you could make an argument for each team to pull this one out.
Washington is coming off a rather flat performance against the Colts losing 27-24 but are 2-1 in their last 3 with wins over Philly and Green Bay. Donovan is not putting up super numbers but he has also been without a key weapon the last few weeks in Clinton Portis.
The Bears are setting at 4-2 and leading the NFC North when most analysts picked them to end up last or just above the Lions. The Defense is playing well and if the Jay Cutler can stay healthy can make a run at winning the Division.
This week being a tough pick I am taking the home team. The Bears Defense is playing better and with Devin Hester being utilized more in the return game this tilts the scale towards the Bears.
What if: If the Skins can keep sustained pressure on Cutler and slow down Forte look for a Skins win.
Prediction: Redskins 24 Bears 31
