Week 8 – RB Rankings
1. Adrian Peterson – Min = @NE
With Brett Favre looking every bit his age, Peterson is the workhorse in the Vikings offense right now. On a side note, if the Patriots defense decides they will absolutely not allow Randy Moss to beat them, then it is very possible that even more running holes will be available for Peterson in this game. 25 carries or more is a no doubter for Peterson this week, so stats in the range of 100-150 rushing yards and 1-2 touchdowns is definitely possible.
2. Frank Gore – SF = Den
If you are looking for that one monstrous game from Gore this season, this is the week to place your money on him. After Darren McFadden essentially destroyed the Broncos run defense last week, Gore could easily be looking at tallying season high stats in this game. It would not be surprising at all if Gore was able to tally 150 total yards and 2 touchdowns in this game.
3. Chris Johnson – Ten = @SD
Considering that the Chargers defense has been solid against the run this season, allowing an average of just 85 rushing yards per game, Johnson could be in store for a tough game this week. However Johnson just offers too much ability and scoring potential, that even a good run defense will have a hard time stopping him. Expecting stats in the range of 100 total yards and 1 touchdown is definitely possible.
4. Arian Foster – Hou = @Ind
After his breakout performance in week 1 against the Colts that resulted in 231 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns, any fantasy football team would be crazy to bench Foster this week. And even with the Colts now knowing they need to stop Foster, it still will not be an easy task for them. 100 rushing yards is easily within reach, and a touchdown or 2 is possible as well for Foster in this game.
5. Steven Jackson – StL = Car / injury ?
Looking and playing like he is fully healthy, Jackson enters this game having tallied three consecutive 100 rushing yard performances. This weeks matchup at home against a fairly weak Carolina defense that has allowed an average of 128 rushing yards per game so far this season, should have Jackson once again topping the 100 rushing yard plateau this week. 100-125 total yards and 1 touchdown is a good bet.
6. Darren McFadden – Oak = Sea
McFadden looked every bit as dominant in last weeks game as he had looked in his pre-injury form from earlier this season. With a matchup against the lagging Seahawks defense this week, McFadden could easily be topping out at 150 total yards and 1 touchdown in this game.
7. Ryan Torain – Was = @Det
Clearly the workhorse in the Redskins backfield, Torain should once again be pushing his stat total towards 100 rushing yards and 1 touchdown this week. In fact, I am even willing to gamble on Torain reaching closer to 125 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns if all goes well for him and the Redskins offense in this game.
8. Jahvid Best – Det = Was
Coming off the bye week, Best should be nearing 100% healthy as well as having fresh legs for this game. Add in Matthew Stafford to the mix this week, and Best could easily be looking at stats topping 100 total yards to go along with a touchdown.
9. Maurice Jones-Drew – Jac = @Dal
Definitely not playing like the MJD that we have gotten accustomed to over the years, but there is still too much potential in him, and it is seemingly only a matter of time before he has that breakout game.
10. Rashard Mendenhall – Pit = @NO
The lack of carries in last weeks game is frustrating for fantasy teams, but as a goal line back, there is always the chance that at least 1 touchdown and maybe even 2 touchdowns are in store for Mendenhall in any given game. And the truth is, the Saints defense is not exactly shouting out as a run stopping D in this matchup.
11. Thomas Jones – KC = Buf
Even though his carries are limited with Jamal Charles, Jones is still racking up yards. And in terms of which Kansas City RB to start, I would go with Thomas Jones this week over Jamal Charles. A matchup at home against the Bills could easily have the Chiefs running the ball well over 30 times in this game.
12. Beanie Wells – Ari = TB
Outstanding matchup for Wells this week, as he could be looking at 25 carries in this game. Add in a bad Arizona passing attack, and Wells is nearly the entire offense for the Cardinals this week. 100 rushing yards and 1 tochdown is easily attainable, and something between 125-150 rushing yards is not out of the realm of possibiliy either.
13. Jamaal Charles – KC = Buf
Much like Thomas Jones, Charles is being productive with his touches. The matchup this week looks like Charles will be looking at 15-20 touches with the potential for 100 total yards and 1 touchdown.
14. Knowshon Moreno – Den = @SF
Returning from injury, Moreno made an instant splash with 90 total yards and 2 touchdowns in last weeks game. This week a matchup against a struggling 49ers team could net Moreno close to that 100 total yard mark, with a touchdown very possible as well.
15. Marshawn Lynch – Sea = @Oak / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Solid matchup for Lynch this week, and considering that he is available in nearly 40% of leagues, you simply cannot go wrong by picking him up right now and knowing that you got yourself a workhorse of a running back for not only this week but the upcoming weeks as well. 50-100 rushing yards is likely, and a touchdown is definitely within reach.
16. Jonathan Stewart – Car = @StL
With DeAngelo Williams out for this game, Stewart should be looking at 20 carries in this game. Stats pushing the 80-100 rushing yard and 1 touchdown range is definitely possible.
17. Cedric Benson – Cin = Mia
18. LaDainian Tomlinson – NYJ = GB
The rumblings are suggesting that the Jets start limiting Tomlinson’s touches this week to keep him healthy and fresh for the end of the season. Look for Shonn Greene to take away at least 10 touches from Tomlinson in this game.
19. Felix Jones – Dal = Jac
20. Fred Jackson – Buf = @KC / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Since trading Marshawn Lynch, the Bills have given Fred Jackson the reigns to stake his claim as the everydown back. So while other fantasy football teams may be fiddling around with CJ Spiller, Fred Jackson is the Buffalo Bills running back that I want on my team.
21. LaGarrett Blount – TB = @Ari / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Blount is clearly on the verge of taking over as the Buccaneers first and second down running back, and a matchup against the Cardinals this week could allow him to claim that job full time for the foreseeable future. 50-75 rushing yards and 1 touchdown is definitely possible from Blount in this game.
22. Donald Brown – Ind = Hou / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
With Joseph Addai likely to miss the next couple of weeks with an injury, Brown will finally get his chance to be the feature back for the Colts. That is assuming Brown can actually stay healthy, since he is coming off of his own injury. With a good matchup in store for the Colts this week, Brown could easily see 10-15 touches and tally 50-100 total yards with a touchdown possible as well. Looking long term, Brown is an excellent running back option that fantasy football teams will want to gamble on picking up and stashing this week.
23. Ronnie Brown – Mia = @Cin
24. Ryan Matthews – SD = Ten
25. Shonn Greene – NYJ = GB
26. BenJarvis Green-Ellis – NE = Min
27. Brandon Jackson – GB = @NYJ
28. Carnell Williams – TB = @Ari
29. CJ Spiller – Buf = @KC
30. Marion Barber – Dal = Jac
31. DeAngelo Williams – Car = @StL / injury ? – OUT – WILL NOT PLAY
Injury concerns make Williams a sketchy and risky play this week for fantasy teams.
32. Mike Hart – Ind = Hou
33. Chris Ivory – NO = Pit
34. Tim Hightower – Ari = TB
35. Justin Forsett – Sea = @Oak
36. Ricky Williams – Mia = @Cin
37. Earnest Graham – TB = @Ari
38. Danny Woodhead – NE = Min
39. Michael Bush – Oak = Sea
40. Steve Slaton – Hou = @Ind
41. Kevin Smith – Det = Was
42. Mike Tolbert – SD = Ten
43. John Kuhn – GB = @NYJ
44. Mewelde Moore – Pit = @NO
45. Julius Jones – NO = Pit
46. Darren Sproles – SD = Ten
47. Deji Karim – Jac = @Dal
