Week 9 – TE Rankings
1. Jason Witten – Dal = @GB
Having Jon Kitna at QB has definitely boosted Witten’s fantasy football value, and a matchup against a Packers defense that typically struggles at covering tight ends, could result in another solid game for Witten this week. 50-100 receiving yards is very likely, and a touchdown is possible as well.
2. Tony Gonzalez – Atl = TB
Solid matchup for the Falcons offense this week, now it is just a matter of determining who will score the TDs for the Falcons in this game. Gonzalez is likely not the first choice, or the second choice to score in the Falcons offense this week, but the potential is absolutely there for Gonzalez this week to be worthy of a top 5 TE ranking.
3. Dustin Keller – NYJ = @Det
Keller definitely fooled me last week with his pathetic stat output, but Mark Sanchez and the entire Jets receiving corps was the main culprit last week as they just could not find any offensive rhythm. Here is to hoping that the Lions defense will not be as good as the Packers were last week. Keller has a great chance at being Sanchez’s favorite target in this game. 50-100 receiving yards is likely, and a touchdown is definitely within range.
4. Jacob Tamme – Ind = @Phi / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
The Colts new secret weapon, Tamme is no Dallas Clark….but Peyton Manning can do wonders.
5. Aaron Hernandez – NE = @Cle
I don’t know about you, but I am ready for that one monstrous breakout game from Hernandez. And something is pushing me to saying this will be that week. Why? Because I honestly just do not see anyone on the Browns defense being able to cover him. 5-8 receptions for 100-150 receiving yards and 1 maybe even 2 touchdowns could be in store if all goes well.
6. Brent Celek – Phi = Ind / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Depending on who starts at QB for the Eagles this week, Celek’s fantasy football value should be tied directly to the decision. If Michael Vick is the QB, then Celek’s fantasy value falls. If Kevin Kolb is the QB, then Celek’s fantasy value rises. This ranking is based on Kevin Kolb being the starting QB this week.
7. Owen Daniels – Hou = SD / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
With health nearing 100%, Daniels at around just 50% owned could easily be headed for an easy top 10 fantasy football TE status over the remainder of the season. Now is clearly the time to gamble on Daniels and pick him up while you still can.
8. Antonio Gates – SD = @Hou / injury ?
With Gates’ plantar fascia injury, he may or may not play this week, and even if Gates does play it is hard to imagine him doing much now that both of his feet are hurting. If you do not have any other options, it is worth chancing Gates this week, but if you have another option I would use it.
9. Kellen Winslow – TB = @Atl
Not being targeted a lot by Josh Freeman, but Winslow still offers red zone touchdown potential to deserve a starting spot if fantasy teams need him.
10. Zach Miller – Oak = KC / injury ?
Ankle injury could limit his playing time this week, so make sure you have a backup plan if Miller doesn’t play.
11. Visanthe Shiancoe – Min = Ari
With little to no passing options in the Vikings offense, it only seems reasonable that Shiancoe will likely be the Vikings top receiving option in this game. 50 receiving yards seems like a safe bet, and more is easily within reach.
12. Todd Heap – Bal = Mia / injury ? / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
The touchdown king in Baltimore right now, there is no reason to believe anything different this week for Heap, as he should once again get a couple of red zone targets.
13. Tony Moeaki – KC = @Oak / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Starting to slow down in production as defenses game plan for him, but with a solid offense surrounding him, Moeaki continues to be a decent spot starting TE option for fantasy teams.
14. Ben Watson – Cle = NE / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Whoever the starting QB is in Cleveland this week, the one thing that is certain, is that Ben Watson will be their favorite target.
15. Greg Olsen – Chi = @Buf / SLEEPER – SPOT STARTER PICKUP
Olsen is no mr reliable, but this weeks matchup could have him eyeing 50 receiving yards and a touchdown.
16. Brandon Pettigrew – Det = NYJ
17. John Carlson – Sea = NYG
18. Jermaine Gresham – Cin = Pit
19. Heath Miller – Pit = @Cin
20. Andrew Quarless – GB = Dal / injury ?
21. Jeremy Shockey – NO = @Car
22. Tony Scheffler – Det = NYJ
23. Rob Gronkowski – NE = @Cle
24. Kevin Boss – NYG = @Sea
25. Donald Lee – GB = Dal
26. Shawn Nelson – Buf = Chi
27. Ben Patrick – Ari = @Min
28. Ed Dickson – Bal = Mia
29. David Thomas – NO = @Car
30. Anthony Fasano – Mia = @Bal
31. Travis Beckum – NYG = @Sea
32. Martellus Bennett – Dal = @GB
33. Jimmy Graham – NO = @Car
34. Alge Crumpler – NE = @Cle
35. Dennis Pitta – Bal = Mia
Vernon Davis – SF = BYE
