Weight loss challenges have helped many people lose weight fast. But what if you can’t join one or don’t want to be in one where those outside the challenge see the results? Just make one of your own! If you decide to go this route, you should have weekly weigh-ins, give rewards to those who did well, and put the focus on changing habits, rather than short-term gains. When we’re done here, you’ll be able to help start your own Weight Loss Challenge.
There are a couple of good reasons for having weekly weigh-ins. Although you don’t have to actually check everyone’s weight, you should be tracking something. Perhaps BMI, waist size, or even just time each member to see how long they can run (if they’re doing the right things, it should steadily increase). But regardless of what you measure, you need to measure in front of the group. This way, those who are doing well get positive reinforcement that what they’re doing is working. It also helps those who are off the right track by allowing the group to intervene and push those people back in the right direction.
You should give rewards. Whether those rewards are weekly, monthly or even just at the end of the Challenge, you should all decide on the rewards together. Everyone who loses weight at each weigh-in should get the chance to speak in front of the group, as a reward for their efforts. You know, sort of to gloat, only friendly. Perhaps at the beginning of the challenge, all the members can pool their cash together and decide on a prize. Then, at the end, the one who loses the most weight or fat gets either a cash prize or something bought with that cash, depending upon what the group decided. Cash and electronics are a sure-fire way to motivate people to work hard for a challenge.
Focus On Changing Habits
This should be the primary goal of the Challenge. Otherwise, you’re all just going to go back to the way you were beforehand. The primary habit you need to work on is your eating habit. Use the competition to help you change your eating habits to promote healthy weight. After all, the Weight Loss Challenge will eventually end. And if you don’t win the prize, and you haven’t changed your habits, was it really worth it in the end?
Weight loss challenges are a fun and inspirational way to lose weight and get back in shape. Just make sure you have your weekly weigh-ins, give rewards, and make the focus of the challenge to be changing habits. Now get out there and lose some weight!
