What channel and what time is the Texas Rangers game on tonight in the Dallas area as the Rangers host the San Francisco Giants in Game Four of the 2010 World Series? As the Fall Classic suddenly revived itself with the Rangers winning Game Three, millions might be reconsidering their first reaction, which was that the baseball season was over.
Baseball has an awkward relationship with television. On the one hand, baseball is a huge sport in the United States. Baseball is comfortably the number two sport in the country, falling short of the National Football League and its popularity, but only by a relatively small margin.
On the other hand, the television ratings for the World Series have been declining for over two decades now as even routine regular season NFL games explode. When two non-descript teams, such as the San Francisco Giants and Texas meet in the World Series, the audience shrinks right out of the gate. Major League Baseball’s network partners, and the league itself, root hard for a long series as, no matter what the matchup, a Game Six and a Game Seven will always return huge ratings. Earlier on in the World Series, however, the league will be crossing its fingers and hoping for the best.
This year, the World Series started off on the worst possible foot, at least so far as those concerned about the business side of baseball were concerned. The San Francisco Giants took the first two games convincingly. The Rangers’ home market of Dallas, Texas, which is decidedly a football town more than a baseball one, showed marked ratings loss for Game Two. It was not surprising at all, given the face that baseball will always be mostly an adopted sport in Dallas, even if there are indisputable signs that ‘Big D’ is becoming a temporary baseball town.
But in the first World Series game ever in the Rangers’ home ballpark, the hometown team rallied to beat the Giants. In the process, the Rangers ensured that if nothing else, the World Series would go six games. While the Rangers are still down, two games to one, on some level the World Series feels tied.
Game Four will be huge. If the Giants win, they are very heavy favorites to go on to win the whole thing and become World Champions. If the Rangers can take another game, the entire World Series is truly up for grabs.
So, what channel and what time is the Rangers game on in the Dallas area? The answer is at 7:57PM Eastern Daylight Time on Fox Network Channel 4, KDFW.
