What channel and what time is the New York Giants game against the Chicago Bears on in the New York City area tonight? Millions of Giants fans across the country, and particularly in the New York City area, will be sitting down tonight to watch the Giants try to avoid a 1 and 3 start against the undefeated Bears. With a game next week on the road against the AFC division leading Houston Texans, the Giants season could very quickly hang over the precipice if they cannot defeat a very good Bears team at home tonight.
Unlike baseball, which concludes its regular season today, the National Football League season can end very quickly for teams if they get off to a bad start. Particularly when playing at home, teams often have to pass the first quarter of the season with at least a .500 record if they want to seriously contend down the stretch.
Probably equally disturbing to Giants fans, however, is not just their record, but the way in which they lost their last two games. Head coach Tom Coughlin, a stickler for discipline, has seen his team play with anything but the past two weeks, with penalties, missed assignments (and even a helmet being thrown into the stands), contributing to an ugly scenario where the Giants not only lost to the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, but were embarrassed in the process.
Tonight at halftime, former Giants greats will be on hand to be inducted into the Giants’ Ring of Honor. One of the honorees, former running back Tiki Barber, has already called into question Coughlin’s hold on his team. This week, Barber said of Coughlin, “When you’re fighting against something that’s not necessarily real, you make it real. That’s why he’s at a crisis. He needs to figure out a way to get control of the situation, whether it’s playing better and not making mistakes, whether it’s having a group of players like he did in previous years stand up and take accountability for what’s going on.”
Barber seemed to be suggesting that sometimes perception becomes reality and if the Giants appear to be out of control to the media and fans, it is only a matter of time before they actually are. At the end of last season, the Giants seemed to lay down during their final game, and it is widely assumed that they will need to make the playoffs for Coughlin to save his job.
There is plenty of intrigue tonight as the Giants attempt to stabilize their season while the Bears try to continue their undefeated ways.
As is typical, the game will get great television ratings and many of those watching are right now wondering what time and what channel the Giants and Bears game is on in New York City; the answer is Channel 4, NBC New York at 8:00PM Eastern Daylight Time.
