What channel is the New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts game on tonight in New York City? Millions in the Big Apple area will be tuning in tonight to see the so-called Manning Bowl, or Brothers’ Bowl, as Giants quarterback Eli Manning leads Big Blue into battle against his older brother, Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.
While the Giants and Colts game might be a bit overshadowed today in the New York City area by the New York Jets (in many ways, the Giants’ younger brother) taking on the New England Patriots, the Giants are still the number one team in the New York City area, even if the Jets got more attention during the preseason with their appearance on HBO’s Hard Knocks and with their head coach Rex Ryan’s unique blend of braggadocio and everyman qualities.
The New York Giants, on the other hand, have remained pretty close to the staid and conservative nature that has been the signature of their franchise for years. Just as the New York Yankees franchise is the ‘establishment’ Major League Baseball team in New York City, the Giants have a longer history and a bigger fan base than do the Jets.
And the Giants, after all, enter Week Two of the NFL season with a 1 and 0 record, having defeated the Carolina Panthers in Week One, behind a very solid performance by Eli Manning. While he did have three interceptions, those reflected far more on his receivers than they did him as up to six catchable passes were missed; three of them deflecting off receivers’ hands for interceptions that had nothing to do with Manning.
Tonight’s game will surely be a ratings smash. National Football League ratings continue to skyrocket as a recession weary country looks for a free escape from its troubles and as large screen, high definition televisions become ever more affordable.
Tonight’s matchup between the Colts and Giants will very likely set a ratings record for Sunday Night Football games. You have the biggest team in the biggest market in the country going against the best football player today in Peyton Manning. Factor in the fact that there is added intrigue here as the opposing brothers are both Super Bowl winning quarterbacks, and a football loving country looking for comfort food for the soul is sure to tune in in record numbers.
The only question left, with the plethora of networks that now cover the NFL, is what channel the New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts game will be on in the New York City area. As this is NBC’s Sunday night game, the Giants game will be on Channel Four, WNBC, in the New York City area.
