Have you ever had a one-night stand? What would you say constitutes a one-night stand? Is it sleeping with someone you barely know? Is it sleeping with someone you know very well but would never choose to date? Is it sleeping with someone under intoxicated impulse? It’s different for everybody, and it all comes down to whether you feel you’ve had a one-night stand.
I’m guilty of it. The only thing is, the only one-night stand I ever had (by definition) turned into a serious relationship, as in fiance. As in we’re getting married. Hmm…so, did I have a one-night stand or not?
Yes, and no, in my opinion. Sure, we slept together within 6 hours of meeting, but I knew he was my soul mate the second I met him. So technically, I don’t feel like I had a one-night stand. We just sped up the dating process into overtime. I didn’t know my beau from Adam when I first met him, and within hours we were intimate. Which constitutes the classic one-night stand. However, we actually joke that that night was our first date. A one-night stand is not supposed to be a date. So did we have a one-night stand or not?
I guess I’ll have to say no. Well, and yes. I’m just going to say that a one-night stand is supposed to be left in the decision of the culprit. Sure, I woke up the next morning going, “What the hell have I done?” and did the drive home of shame without waking him up (crappy, I know), but it was more or less because I was terrified of how I felt about him (as in, loving him when I didn’t even know his last name) rather than sleeping with him without really knowing him.
I was more afraid of what he felt about me. Goodness, what kind of girl sleeps with a guy she hardly knows? Well, it turns out that we were just one of those people who actually felt like we had known each other our whole lives and if we slept together right away then so what? I was in love with this man the moment I met him, and the rest is history.
Is a one-night stand an action or an opinion? I would say it’s an opinion. What I consider to be a one-night stand may differ from what you would call a one-night stand. Typically, I would consider sleeping with someone you just met not knowing their whole name and then speeding out of their house without waking them would classify a classic one-night stand. But considering that our actions led to a serious relationship instantly, I guess it throws that theory out the window.
I dunno. I guess it all comes down to how you feel about it.
