What ever happened to Ann Coulter?
I first became aware of Ann Coulter in 1998 when she started calling for the impeachment of then-President Bill Clinton. Over the next four or five years, she grabbed a lot of headlines with her outspoken conservative viewpoints and books containing said viewpoints. Then, as far as I knew, she ceased to exist. I just stopped hearing about her. So what ever happened to Ann Coulter?
As it turns out, Ann Coulter was part of the legal team that represented Paula Jones in her pre-Monica Lewinsky sexual harassment suit against Bill Clinton, although she later became antagonistic to Paula Jones, after Jones announced that she would pose for Playboy. In 1998 she published the book “High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton.” This was eventually followed by eight other books, including Slander (2002), which I remember seeing. She has reportedly continued to appear on news programs and elsewhere continusouly since 1998. [Source: Ann Coulter – Wikipedia. So why haven’t I noticed her lately? It could simply be because her shock factor is gone. She made waves initially by being very in-your-face with Democrats and other ideological opponents. Over the past ten years, television news has shifted toward a more confrontational format (in my opinion), so maybe Ann Coulter just doesn’t stand out as much anymore. But there is another possible explanation:
Maybe we really are seeing less of her. In 2005 and 2006, a number of newspapers dropped her column. One editor reportedly stated that “it came to the point where she was the issue rather than what she was writing about.” [Source: Ann Coulter – Wikipedia. If anything, I’m surprised that I haven’t seen more of her since President Barack Obama’s election. Many other conservative pundits have jumped back to the media forefront after languishing during eight years of a Republican presidency. I would have expected her to do the same. Ultimately, though, this might all just be my perception. Apparently, she is still out there and going strong.
