Call me Alice, but when I see an unexplored rabbit hole, I’ve got to check it out. Today’s curiouser thing: What is the Woodward 5 and why is Ferndale a “proud member”? I figured it had something to do with being on historic Woodward Avenue, but there’s a little more to the story. Ferndale is one of five communities along the Woodward Corridor, the “cultural hot zone of Metro Detroit,” as the Woodward 5 website calls it. Other communities include Royal Oak, Berkley, Pleasant Ridge and Huntington Woods. I knew Woodward Avenue was a historic street in metro Detroit. You can get pretty near anywhere you want to be from Woodward. Did you know that along the six miles of Woodward Corridor there are:
2 school districts
300+ Unique shops and boutiques
275+ Places to eat or get a drink.
100+ Events happening every year.
80+ Family parks
30+ Art galleries (this one is my favorite)
3 golf courses
2 ice arenas, 2 skate parks
1 zoo (I got this information from the website, too.)
So I guess it’s perfectly natural that Ferndale is proud to be a member of the Woodward Corridor. It’s pretty exciting.
