A dollar back in 1984, when I was born, was the equivalent of $2.13 today. Holy cow- even in my 26 short years a dollar had double value back when I was a brand-new pink baby girl. Of course, I remember when there was still penny candy, candy bars were 4 for a dollar, and this was when I was grade school. Isn’t it weird how after even a short time the value of a dollar just goes….to nothing? Huh. Check out this fun site to see what a dollar was worth when you were born versus what it is worth by today’s value.
It’s a pretty fun site, and super easy to use (of course it is, I figured it out). All you do is type $1.00 in the dollar amount section of the calculator, add in the year you were born (from 1914 to 2010) and then type in the year you are comparing it to to get the “buying power” of one dollar the day you were brought screaming into this world.
Did you know that 2007 was the highest inflation rate since 1990 at 4.08%? Then comes 2008 and our lovely economic downfall, where inflation was down to a meager .09%, which is the lowest since 1954. I found this site to be pretty damn cool, and beats picking your ass or your nose for a few minutes. Check it out (and feel really, really old, even if you’re still in your twenties) and find out how much a dollar was worth “way back when” and other cool facts on this nifty little site.
