According to the Nation’s Premier Forum for Women Website, Gayle King had this to say when asked
“What do you think is most important to professional success? “ :
“To surround yourself with people smarter than you. That way, you can always learn from somebody, and being around smart people will only make you want to step up your game.”
Was that on her mind when she chose to be the Mistress of Ceremonies for this year’s 25th Gala Fundraiser for K.I.D.S. Foundation? The Charity Navigator seems to think that K.I.D.S. has some pretty smart people running the non-profit.
K.I.D.S. or Kids in Distressed Situations began as a foundation to help children suffering from famine in Ethopia and has grown into a global charity that is devoted to alleviating poverty among children everywhere. It is a non-profit that was founded in 1985 and has maintained a four-star rating from Charity Navigator (the nation’s largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities). By providing hope and fulfilling needs (clothing, shoes, toys, books, furniture and other products) gathered through a network of thousands of social service agencies.
The 25th Anniversary Gala Fundraiser will be held on December 1st at the Cipriani Dolci in NYC. Gayle will be the Mistress of Ceremonies and Newark Mayor Cory Booker will be a keynote speaker. Several industry leaders will be honored for their contributions in providing assistance for children and their families living in squalor conditions and suffering from natural disasters. Honorees are: John Goodman, Exec. VP of Sears Holding Corporation, Oscar Feldenkreis, Pres and CEO of Perry Ellis Corporation and Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of the footwear charity, Soles4Souls.
K.I.D.S. has provided close to one billion dollars worth of new clothing, toys and basic necessities to improve the lives of more than 65 million underprivileged and disaster-struck children.
In 2006, President Obama was the K.I.D.S. keynote speaker at the fundraiser. He attributed the success of K.I.D.S. with the support of generous corporate giving and religious group backing.
