If there is one thing almost 2 million people know about it is how fun the Minnesota state fair is. What makes this fair so great? What is there to do? What kind of food do they have? Well let’s take a look at all the fun that makes up the great Minnesota get together.
The Minnesota State Fair has long a tradition for many families in the land of 10,000 lakes. It began in 1859. While for a long time it was a traveling fair, it got its roots settled into Ramsey County in the capital city of Saint Paul near the 20th century. The fair has been held virtually every year with the exception of 5 times, usually when a war was occurring.
One of the things th at attract so many to the MN State Fair is the food. Plenty from around the world come to the fare just for it. Most notably the fair is known for its food on a stick. Pretty much anything you can think of you can find on a stick. Hot dogs, wall-eye, candy, pork chops, alligator (yes, as in the animal). Then there are plenty of traditional foods such as French fries, cheese curds, and cotton candy. This fair is also known for its downright strange food. You can find bologna on a stick, deep fried Twinkies, pig cheeks and pig ears as well as tater tot casserole (on a stick of course). Whatever your pallet prefers, odds are you will find it here.
This fair is full of plenty to do besides just eating. There are various competitions to watch. You can catch the sheep shearing contest, or maybe the horse riding contest. If you are a dairy fan you can check out the princess key of the Milky Way sculpture contest. Every year this local royalty gets her head carved in massive slab of butter.
There are also demonstrations. How to milk a cow for example. Also, the miracle birth barn offers some exciting up close actions for those that would like to witness the joy of birth.
An exciting part of the fair in recent years is the commitment to health and wellness. You can get your eyes, blood pressure, cholesterol, hearing and blood type all tested at the fair. You also have the chance to get a DNA make up done.
Whether you love animals, music, art, culture, people or food. The Minnesota state fair is a great place for family friendly fun. See you there.
