Veterans Day is a federal holiday recognized in the United States. It is observed this year on November 11, 2010. Veterans have given us so much of their precious time, blood and courage, this day is quite special to me, as it is to many.
In 1978, the date of Veterans day was moved to the October month. It was moved right back to November 11th the very next year and it has remained there since then. This significance of November 11th is very important in our history. Veterans day is also called Armistice day. The 11th hour, on the 11th day, during the 11th month in 1918, the armistice was signed and that signified the end of world war one. What a beautiful moment. Veterans day was meant to be celebrated on November eleventh and I suspect that date will remain in place. As it should.
Veterans day is also called remembrance day. It is indeed a special date and a perfect time to remember what so many veterans have sacrificed for all of us to live free. Not only have veterans served us so well and faithfully, their families and friends have also made significant sacrifices over the many passing years. The USA flag is a tribute and many wear pins, don flags, hold parades and march proudly, on this day, in tribute to veterans that have served their country so bravely and so well. All of us should proudly salute the flag and be thankful for our precious veterans. They were there for us and we should never forget. Never.
The United States should always take care of veterans and their families. Veterans made a brave choice in serving their country. Many died and are not here now but, their families and friends live on. I think we all need to know their struggles, their pain and their bravery. Their pride is our pride. We live free and survive today because many of them died. That is a fact. To serve is to earn the blessing and thanks of all of us. That is how I feel. Veterans, I thank you.
On November 11th, 2010, let a veteran that you know how much you greatly appreciate their service. This could be a family member, a friend or an acquaintance. Congratulate them for their service, their courage, their sacrifices and their bravery. You may see many eyes watering on this special remembrance day and there is a reason. Love, life, sacrifice and pride. Ours. Veterans are the reason. Believe it. Thank them. They fought for all of us. That fact is evident and that courage carries no price. It is cherished and priceless. We salute you, our United States veterans, on this Veterans day. Bless you.
