I have three friends that I like to visit in Parnassus. Instead of taking 4 transfers to their block, I just go to the Haight and then take a taxi the rest of the way. It saves a lot of stress and hassle and is well worth the price. However, over the past six months, my experiences have steadily grown worse with each time I tried to catch a cab back home from Parnassus.
I knew that something was wrong and that I simply needed to get to the bottom of it. It turns out, there is an issue that I wasn’t considering. After all, I was going from one area of town to another and spending a lot of money. I was also going and coming from districts that taxis find profitable. So what was the issue? Where were all the taxis? Why was I always stranded overnight in Parnassus?
2 different taxi drivers have explained that between the World Series and the holidays, taxi drivers are taking a vacation. Evidently, the taxi stands that the Mayor authorized at the last minute for the World Series were the economic answer to taxi drivers prayers. Simply put, taxi drivers throughout San Francisco are cooling their jets with their big bundle of cash at the moment.
Getting a taxi is definitely a problem lately and it looks like the shortage won’t be getting better anytime soon with the holidays coming up. As for me, I am investing in a pair of galoshes.
