Being busy, it is hard to juggle preparing meals and preparing oneself before we go to work or school. It is more convenient to stop by a restaurant to take brunch to save time and money especially if we are about to beat a deadline. Luckily, there are establishments we could go to have a hurried or relaxed meal.
Located at the second floor of the Crown Plaza Galleria Manila in Ortigas Avenue in Mandaluyong City, the Seven Corners Restaurant is one of my favorite place for my brunch. The place makes my face split into a wide smile. On the long buffet table, we could see that there are dishes that are arranged in groups in accordance to what country they are from. There were Filipino, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, American, and European dishes. My favourite is the kimchi, which is a kind of fermented veggies from Korea. It made me remember my dad who introduced me to the Korean cuisine after he had a talk with his fellow elevator businessmen in Seoul long time ago. The brewed coffee was terrific. The seats are comfortable. I love my stay there. It is warm. Since, it is conveniently located near the Robinson’s mall, we could proceed to window shopping after the meal if we are not in a hurry. It is certainly a good way to burn the calories we could take in. Definitely, we should not be on a diet when we go to the Seven Corners. Parking spaces are plenty because it is a part of the Robinson’s mall properties. We could spend about $ 12.00 (1200 pesos) for the meal. It is quite a feast.
Bien-a-Bien Coffee Shop is one of the places where I stay anytime of the day to kill time during my residency training because it is just a stone’s throw away from the San Juan Medical Center. They serve meals all day from seven o’clock in the morning till nine o’clock in the evening along the busy N. Domingo Street in San Juan City. It is in front of the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ) chapel. From the Ortigas Avenue, we could get there by riding the G Liner bus or by a taxicab if we are not driving our car.If we come from the Robinson’s Galleria, we could have a taxi meter amount of about $3.00 (120 to 150 pesos). The parking lot is small because most customers were just from houses nearby or from the establishments nearby (like my hospital). Being a coffee shop, they serve iced coffee in different flavors like mocha, cappucino, strawberry and blueberry. They also serve the usual brewed coffee, espresso, cafe latte, cafe Americano and many more. They also have baked goodies like cookies, cheese rolls that we locally call ensaimada and cinnamon breads. For main dishes for the brunch, the beef in salpicao sauce with the rice is favorite among my friends. They also have the beef caldereta which is yummy with the rice. It is a dish of beef cooked with liver spread and carrots. Spaghetti is sweet and saucy . Indeed, there are times when we think that we should order more servings of their meals that we could have for about $2.00 to $4.00 (80 to 160 pesos). We could also relax in the warm ambience and read their magazines. I admire their cozy interiors. It add some attraction and people want to stay long to chat. The restrooms are clean and there is a beautiful sink outside the restroom where I love to wash my face and my hands before I eat.
Of course, my all time favorite is the Ma Mon Luk. I do not know what time it opens and closes, but it seems that it is always open. It is located along the Quezon Avenue near Banaue Street in Quezon City. Thus, because of that, it is easy to see the restaurant. It already has become a landmark near Rotonda. They serve hot Chinese noodle soup that we locally call “mami,” which means noodles of Ma.Ma is the name of the original owner. They also serve Chinese bread that we call siopao, which is a good accompaniment with special mami( special because it is big). I usually order them with a can of diet Coke and pays $5.50 (150 pesos). There are also sauteed rice noodles and fried chicken in the menu, but the people usually order them during dinner or if they are in big groups . The waiters are always ready to see what you need like a glass of water. I find the sink, where we can wash hands before we eat, a good amenity where we can ensure cleanliness before we handle the food we eat. The parking lot is usually occupied during lunch and dinner time because the restaurant is popular. Thus, we should not be surprise if we see celebrities dropping by to take their meals also.
