For the past few months, “The Monster” Abyss has said about how “they” are coming to TNA and will take over the company. We did not know many details about who “they” are, but from last week’s Impact episode, we now know when they are coming and will be revealed. Abyss announced last week that “they” will arrive to TNA on 10/10/10, or October 10, 2010, the date of the Bound for Glory pay-per-view. The Bound for Glory PPV is the biggest of the year for TNA, and it is the equivalent for TNA, as WrestleMania is for WWE. This could mean the biggest news in TNA on TNA’s biggest day and this storyline could take them to the next level.
Many fans have speculated that the “they” that Abyss was talking about was Fortune, the newest stable in TNA with Ric Flair in charge. These speculations were fueled even more when Ric Flair said on Impact two weeks ago, that Fortune was indeed the “they” that Abyss talked about. But Abyss adamantly denied those rumors last week on Impact and said that Fortune was not the “they” that he was talking about, calling Ric Flair a liar. This left fans to wonder who actually are “they” and what will they do when they get here. Here are five candidates who “they” most likely can be:
Extreme Version 2.0: The top candidate that fans expect to be revealed as “they” are the ECW Originals, now known as Extreme Version 2.0. Currently, this stable might be down a member, with Mick Foley out due to an ankle injury, and Abyss might be the guy to fill that void and become the new leader, leading EV2 to try to take over the company. One of the reasons why it might not be them is because Abyss is currently feuding with this stable, taking on Stevie Richards last week on Impact, and will take on Rhyno at the No Surrender PPV. This was likely the original plans for who “they” were but plans might of changed and TNA might of went in a different direction with this storyline.
Hogan and Bischoff: This would be the ultimate swerve and definitely is a possibility of happening. One reason why this theory should not be discounted is because before Abyss turned heel, he was a huge Hulk Hogan fan and was a Hulkamaniac when he was a kid and even admitted that Hogan was his icon. This whole “they” storyline might all be Hogan and Bischoff’s idea and they used Abyss as a puppet to get their message across. It would also make sense with Sting’s perception of deception, that he said that everything is not like it seems. This could also work and they could focus a storyline of Abyss, with Hogan and Bischoff trying to take over the entire company from Dixie Carter. Right now, Dixie Carter shares creative control of the company with Hogan and Bischoff. It would also be a great way of turning Hogan and Bischoff heel.
The Wolfpack (Sting and Nash): It is also possible that Sting and Nash are the “they” that Abyss is talking about. If you remember in the past, Sting did have a big influence on Abyss and helped him become a monster, and make himself his own man, without the help of James Mitchell. Now that Sting has turned into a heel, it is possible that he has influenced Abyss again, but this time to get what he wants. It might be that it is really Sting’s message to take over TNA with the help of Nash and The Monster.
James Mitchell with Rellik and Judas Mesias: Ever since Abyss has announced that “they” are coming, there has been some rumors that Abyss would re-unite with his former manager, James Mitchell. If Mitchell is to come back to TNA, he will not come alone, and there have been news that TNA is trying to sign back both Rellik and Judas Mesias, who are working in the independents currently. Rellik and Mesias are both the size of Abyss, both are monsters, and both have had feuds with him in the past. And if Rellik and Mesias do come back, they can be put with Abyss into a stable, with James Mitchell as the leader.
Paul Heyman: While this is unlikely, there is a chance that the “they” that Abyss is talking about could be the arrival of Paul Heyman with his own wrestlers (could be stars that WWE just released like Carlito, Mickie James, Shelton Benjamin, etc), in his bid to take over the company and Abyss is there to join him in that fight. Abyss has said that “they” are going to take over the company and remove Dixie Carter from the company. TNA has tried to recently recruit Heyman to the company, but he said no, due to the way that TNA is going. This might just be the storyline that Heyman would want to come back to wrestling for.
