The Week 6 results show of Dancing With The Stars proved to be a bit of a shocker (a descriptor used by The Hollywood Gossip and several media sites) as voters sent home one of the top scorers of the previous evening. By the end of Monday’s competition, the Dancing With The Stars judges had scored Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy highest (26/30), with Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke (24/30) and Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani (24/30) not far behind. Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya received the lowest cumulative score of the night (18/30); their dancing to “The Final Countdown” by Europe seemed a bit portentous. But not as portentous as Audrina and Tony’s, as it turned out.
For Week 6’s challenge, the couples were asked to do a Paso Doble or Tango to a rock song (the theme: Rock ‘n Roll Marathon). Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy ruled the night, performing a stunning Tango to Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out For A Hero.”
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke got their high marks from a Tango performed to Van Halen’s “You Really Got Me.”
Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani scored the best Paso Doble performance of the evening, moving nicely to Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust.”
In keeping with the rock theme, Heart performed “Barracuda.” Hard rockers Bret Michaels, Alice Cooper, and Dee Snider were also in attendance, weighing in on who they wanted to win the competition.
Kylie Minogue performed “Get Out Of My Way” as well.
Jennifer Grey, who jumped out to an early lead as favored to win the competition in the early weeks, received the second-lowest score of the evening. She and partner Derek Hough performed a Paso Doble to “So What” by Pink and failed to impress the judges. Still, they impressed enough Dancing With The Stars voters to remain in the competition.
Jennifer and Derek were among the final three couples as the results were announced. Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer were also among the final three couples. But when it was all said and done, Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani bit the dust, so to speak.
The judges were generous about the elimination. Len Goodman said he was “at a loss for words” when faced with the final two couples. He went on, “The American people and the British people like the underdog, but we like justice more and there is no justice with these two being here.”
Still, when the results were announced, Patridge was gracious in defeat.
“I’ve had so much fun this entire experience,” she said. “Tony has been such an amazing teacher … Thank you for all the comments and support.”
Her spirits may have been buoyed by the fact that she had already received good news. The reality show star, who rose to fame on the MTV program “The Hills,” wasn’t staying idle for long. Zap2It reported Tuesday that Patridge had been picked up by VH1 for a new reality show that would focus on Patridge and her family.
“We were going to announce tomorrow morning,” she admitted, “but now we can announce that the show with Mark Burnett did get picked up by VH1.”
