Who Should win the American League Cy Young Award
There is a pretty good race for the American League Cy Young award in 2010. The picture rules in the American League in 2010. Some of the best pictures in baseball are in the American League. You have David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays. He is a youngster, but is already one of the best pictures in baseball. You have CC Sabathia whom the New York Yankees bought for the highest price. You have Clay Buchholz who has helped the Boston Red Sox remain in the playoff race until the last week of the season. You have Felix Hernandez who has pitched well for a horrible team. Hernandez should have more wins, but Seattle has not given him any run support.
1. Felix Hernandez-Felix Hernandez could possibly win the Cy Young Award. He has excellent stats. He is only 13-12, but has not received much run support from his teammates. Felix Hernandez has a 2.27 ERA; he has 232 strikeouts in 249.2 innings. Felix Hernandez is a great picture on a very bad Seattle Mariner team. What may hurt him is his win/loss record.
2. Clay Buchholz-Clay Buchholz is only twenty-six years old and already a star picture for the Boston Red Sox. Buchholz is 17-7 with a 2.33 ERA. He has 120 strikeouts in 170 innings. Clay Buchholz should be a future star of the Boston Red Sox. He probably won’t win the Cy Young Award because of the pictures in front of him.
3. CC Sabathia-CC Sabathia is the ace picture for the New York Yankees. He is a great picture that the NY Yankees bought in the offseason. CC Sabathia is 21-7 with a 3.18 ERA. He has 197 strikeouts in 237 innings. CC Sabathia has a great chance to win the CY Young Award in 2010. He plays in New York which gets most of the baseball press. The reason he may not win the Cy Young Award is his losses he received when he faced up against the Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price. Don’t let the stats fool you. Playing in New York gives CC Sabathia a step up on the competition.
4. David Price– David Price is the ace picture for the Tampa Bay Rays. He has a 19-6 record in 2010. David Price has an ERA of 2.73. He has 187 strikeouts in 207 innings. David Price has had a dominating sophomore season for the Rays. He may win the CY Young Award in 2010 because his head to head games against CC Sabathia. Without David Price, the Rays would not have had a chance to win the American League East. He may not win the CY Young award because David Price is a lesser known picture than CC Sabathia and Felix Hernandez.
The American League Cy Young Award should go to one of the four pictures above in 2010. CC Sabathia is the frontrunner because he already has a known name in baseball. It also doesn’t hurt that he plays in media friendly New York for the New York Yankees. The other three pictures still stand a chance to win the Cy Young Award in 2010. If It were up to me, I would give the Cy Young Award to David Price for a few reasons. He has pitched dominating against the New York Yankees, he has been the ace of the Tampa Bay Rays and he is quickly becoming a superstar in Major League Baseball.
