The nightmare was reincarnated in 2010, when director Samuel Bayer remade this iconic 80’s horror flick.
Horror Movie Villain 2 – Jason Voorhees – Friday the 13th
Jason Voorhees is the poster child for neglect. A deformed child tormented by peers and ignored by camp counselors, Jason falls into Crystal Lake and drowns. His body is never recovered. Jason’s mother returns one year later and murders the two camp counselors who were off having sex instead of watching her son. Twelve years later, the camp is reopened and Jason’s mother is murdered. Now Jason is out for revenge. Physical deformities hidden behind a hockey mask, Jason rips and slashes his way through nine original movies, one crossover, Freddy vs. Jason, and the remake directed by Marcus Nispel in 2009.
Horror Movie Villain 3 – Michael Myers – Halloween
Since 1978, the theme song has been synonymous with Halloween. You’re got it stuck in your head right now, don’t you? Unlike Freddy and Jason, Michael started his killing career early in life. On Halloween night in 1963, Michael was only 6 years old when he donned a clown mask, grabbed a knife and brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister. Fifteen years later, Michael escapes from a mental institution and returns to Haddonfield, Illinois to pick up right where he left off. This time, he’s picking off babysitters one by one. Absent for only one of the eight original movies, (Halloween III: Season of the Witch), Michael Myers hacked and slashed his way into the lives of horror movie fans for twenty-two years. Rob Zombie remade both Halloween I and II in 2007 & 2009.

After a failed suicide attempt, Kramer developed a new respect for life and decides to “save” other who do not value their own lives. Kidnapping those he believes to be flawed, Jigsaw (as he’s dubbed by the police), places his victims in nearly impossible situations where they’re required to complete a certain task before a device rigged up by a mechanical device hurts or kills the them. The name “Jigsaw” comes from the small jigsaw-like pieces carved from the flesh which represent the missing survival instinct of his victims. Jigsaw has psychologically and physically tortured his way through six movies with a seventh 3D movie scheduled for release in October of 2010.
Horror Movie Villain 5 – Pinhead – Hellraiser
Pinhead is the leader of the Cenobites, a clan of sadomasochistic demons who claim the body and soul of those who “call to them” by solving a fiendish puzzle box, Lament Configuration, which is a doorway to Hell. Created by horror author Clive Barker, the intelligent and articulate Pinhead is a huge departure from mainstream horror movie serial killers. The series has spanned through eight movies beginning in 1987. A remake is currently in development.
Horror Movie Villain 6 – Leatherface – Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The infamous chainsaw-wielding maniac slashed his way onto the horror movie scene in 1974. The story begins with five teenagers en route to investigate the desecrated grave of a beloved grandfather. When they pick up a strange hitchhiker, the man slashes both himself and wheel-chair bound Franklin Hardesty before they can get him out of their van. When they stop for gas at an old house, they fall into the hands of a family of grave robbing cannibals. Leatherface tortures and murders each of them one by one. Leatherface has ripped his way through four original movies, one prequel and the 2003 remake directed by Michael Bay.
Horror Movie Villain 7 – Chucky – Child’s Play
Serial killer Charles Lee Ray, shot by the police, stumbles into a toy store and manages to escape his certain descent into Hell by transferring his soul into the body of a life-like talking doll. When little Andy receives the doll as a gift, he doesn’t at first understand that the voice coming from the plastic lips once belonged to a human being. “Chucky” starts his killing spree by murdering Andy’s babysitter. Not only does nobody believe Andy that Chucky is responsible for the murder, he’s not aware that Charles Lee Ray is only biding his time until he can take up permanent residence in the little boy’s body. During the span of the five-movie series, Chucky transforms from a terrifying knife-wielding psycho-doll to a hapless reluctant husband and father of an emo son who wants no part of his father’s criminal career.
