For months now we have been hearing from those running for office this November as well as those who can’t seemed to be pleased at anything this administration has done or wish to do. We have heard about the policies of this administration and the tag line “job-killers policies”. In the beginning it was easy to see and agree with but now so much truth is being discovered and that truth strongly contradicts those proclamations that we heard in the beginning about those “job-killing policies”. Example one is when we heard from so many that the stimulus plan did not create one job. This article clearly proves that it did more than save or created jobs, it saved a city.
“Kokomo is going back to work.” “A year and a half ago the fate of this car town, home to four Chrysler plants and a Delphi facility, was as uncertain as the American auto industry itself.” “Now, thanks largely to the federal government, the town’s unemployment rate has gone from over 20% to under 14%.” “Economists disagree over the real nationwide impact of the massive stimulus jolt orchestrated by President Obama.” “But here in Kokomo, the Recovery Act and Obama’s auto bailout have jolted Kokomo back to life — keeping big industry from fleeing and attracting newcomers as well.” “We would not be manufacturing in the United States if it wasn’t for the stimulus money,” said Lisa Hardwick, Delphi’s plant manager, during a tour of the facility.” “Downtown, it’s anything but ghostly.” “Kokomo’s mayor, along with other city officials, used stimulus money to revamp the dying town center and lure shoppers back from the neon strip of chain stores and traffic lights that ring the city’s eastern side.” (Hargreaves, Steve, 10/19/2010, CNN Money, A Town Saved by Stimulus, Retrieved from www.finance.yahoo.com).
The second and profound proof of the lies that were first uttered regarding the stimulus being a job-killer, is the new report which proves that the very same people who lied to the public about the stimulus had sent letter begging for some of the money for their own districts and in those letters they admit that the money will stimulate and create jobs. So how can it not create jobs today but can tomorrow? When the public finally allow themselves to see clearly, these lies should come back to haunt a party that refused to help govern and did little if anything to help advance this nation and fix its problems.
It is American to disagree and stand up for what you believe. It is American to fight for those that can not fight for themselves, but it is also American to understand that no one person has all of the answers and that each one of us has a stake in the success and future of our world. It is American to agree to disagree but not allow that to stop the process of moving this nation forward. No disagreement is so profound that it can not be overcome by compromise. We may not get everything that we wish but to receive a portion of what we seek instead of getting nothing from refusing to compromise is nothing more than stupidity squared. We are not a nation of stupid people; we are a nation of doers so let’s get back to doing just that. The majority rule worked for many years but lately we have become the land of the few. We know that the needs of the few do not and should never outweigh the needs of the many.
