With the exception of cats that are kept only in the home or in a cage; all felines must be spayed and neutered. If you own a cat or feed a stray be forewarned. If you have a free cat living in the environment or a stray you feed; you are subjecting yourself to communicable disease. More specifically you can get a man eating mite also called mange or scabies. They will bite you and leave horrible rashes which can persist for months and they are painful.
It is not kind to feed stray cats. You damn those cats to a certain death; when they are eaten alive by these microscopic pests. It isn’t cool or natural to have strays or unneutered and free cats. You either spay them or you will eventually also be infested with these horrible mites. If you have a stray take it to a pound or call to have it picked up. Yes, that probably means extermination but it will die anyways wants it gets mange. And it will suffer unimaginably and so will you if you have contact with it.
Feral cats fight a lot, so they pick up mites from other cats or animals when fighting. After a few months these mites literally eat them alive until they are dead. Now you know why they exterminate or spay strays. The whole motivation for fighting is usually sexual in nature. As they are fighting for sexual territory and females; once eliminated a cat will be more likely to stay around one area and just passively live around the owner.
If you are a parent with children, never let your child feed stray cats or have contact with them. They can catch this mite and they will be in great pain. This mite kills dogs and cats and possibly humans if they had enough of them on them with not treatment.
Cats must be owned and neutered. All stray cats should be exterminated or taken to a pound to be properly vaccinated and cleaned for resale. There really aren’t any alternatives. If you don’t do this you will have infected dead feral cats, and humans with this horrible disease. I’ve seen it first hand and now I know why they spay or exterminate stray cats. The only cats that should be kept normal are cats for breeding or indoor cats that you have under your supervision. I wrote this article to save any cat owners any undue hardship or difficulty. I include a link for those that contract scabies.
