One of the main reasons people who want to lose weight and get more in shape fail to do so is because they have not set up a proper exercise routine. Many people think that they will get healthier by working out when they want to. The reason this is a bad idea is because very few people really WANT to work out. Therefore, they may only work out once a week or less and that’s not going to get you into shape. It is easy to make excuses for yourself and that is why very few people stay on course while trying to lose weight.
One of the best methods of staying on course is to write everything down. Make a schedule of what days you are going to work out and what hours during those days you are going to work out and when you complete each workout session take a pencil and cross it out on your schedule. That way, when you take a look at how well you did after the first month, you will be able to see how many days you actually worked out on the days you said you would. You should also write down what you’re eating and when you’re eating so you can ensure that you are getting a healthier diet.
The easiest way to stay on course is to have your exercise schedule happen on the same days at the same times every week. You have many things going on in your life and having to remember what days and times you’re supposed to work out each week will be even more stressful on you. However, if you pick out three days a week and work out at the same time each day you will find it is much easier to keep track of.
Remember that your work out schedule is almost like a promise to yourself. Nobody made you write it out and nobody is forcing you to exercise. It is something that you want to do. If you truly want to lose weight, you have to make your exercise routine a priority, instead of an option. Don’t allow yourself to skip one session, because after you have skipped one it will be much easier to skip again.
Another thing that commonly happens that leads to people quitting their exercise routine is getting fed up with no results. Many think that after a few weeks they should lose twenty pounds and be buff. It doesn’t work that way. You should start to see some good results after three months and should see definite improvement after six months. That sounds like a long time on paper but it will fly by. After a year of steady workouts and healthy eating, you will look like a completely different person.
