What is it about politics that makes people turn red and have an increase in their blood pressure? Could it be that the choices really don’t change? Perhaps it has to do with the character of the candidates, or perhaps the lack of character.
Often a person will step back and wonder if this privilege called voting, is in fact a privilege. Perhaps it is merely a way to let the rich get richer and poor get poorer. Keep the same type of candidate in office and you cannot expect change.
When the choice for governor is a man who wrecked the state when he was governor or another one that has been labeled and proven to be corrupt, you really do not have a choice. Perhaps the only choice is to move to another state to get away from it all.
You have to think about the driving force for political candidates. Is it possible that it is the money? Perhaps they are seeking recognition. Serving the community in productive ways can be done without spending millions on a campaign and falling into the same patterns as the rest of the politicos that share your executive washroom.
A man who has worked at a job all of his life, raised his family and has managed to accumulate a comfortable retirement package may just be a better candidate. He most likely has a firm grasp on reality.
A woman who has had a career, balanced her responsibilities at home and has a substantial savings for her future may also be a better candidate.
It’s possible that these folks didn’t have time to engage in multiple affairs as they aged. They may have even made less money that most of these politicians have spent in their attempts to deceive us with their promises.
Maybe there should be a morals clause attached to the job description of every elected official. It could cover personal mistakes, financial mistakes and put them on a ninety day trial period to see if they are the right person for the job.
That is probably too much to ask.
Maybe it is time for another clean sweep within the walls of our governmental buildings. Whether it is local, state or national, decide if you really want the current candidates to be in charge of your future.
