Many people feel they can worship, pray, and live their faith withour attending church. You may be surprised with my response. In some aspects I agree, and I fully respect their decision and honor it.
For me church is not a place where I come, pray worship, hear the Bible and then feel like we have done our praying for the week and then feel like we are following Jesus.Faith is lived each day. Prayer is each day, worshiping is part of who we are and the breathe we take.
I come to church to nourish my faith. To be with others who are also trying to follow Jesus the best we can. It’s a time to praise Jesus in community and rejoice for the wondrous gifts he has given and to listen to the word as a community and know people all over the world are listening to the same word today and realize we are much more than just one person praying and living our faith.
There are many distractions in our world and culture that can lead us away from faith and Jesus. I need community and knowing I’m not alone in my journey.I need the singing as a community and the sharing and listening of the Bible.
There is a place – a very important place- for private prayer and our own relationship with Jesus. But for me I humbly admit- I need a community.I also attend a faith sharing group each week where we pray scripture. We read part of the reading for the next Sunday and in a meditative way say a word or phrase that speaks to us. Then we discuss how the reading affects how we try and live our faith. I love this group!
I have no intention of trying to convince anyone else to go to church by writing this. I just wanted to share my thoughts with all my brothers and sister no matter what faith you have or how you choose to live it. I bow to your holiness and sacredness.
