Some people think that staying single is the way to go, and long-term relationships are like getting chained down. However, there are a lot of perks to staying in a monogamous relationship, and I’m going to tell you about them.
I have discovered over the years that being in a committed relationship is far better than dating. I know there are a lot of people out there that disagree with me, and they have the right to their opinion. This is mine, and I’m going to tell you why I think the way I do. Some of this might seem amusing, but while it may be funny, all of it is true. The following list is in no particular order.
When you’re in a monogamous relationship, you always know your partner’s name. If you’re dating a lot, especially if you’re seeing more than one person at the same time, it can get hard to keep up with names. Calling everyone “honey” or “baby” doesn’t always cut it.
In a monogamous relationship, if the woman gets pregnant, you know who the baby’s father is. When you’re dating a lot of people, you could get pregnant by any number of people, or father any number of children. If you stick to one person, you know who the parents are. Of course, anyone who’s smart wouldn’t be having unprotected sex anyway.
In a monogamous relationship you have time to get to know the other person, and can form a stronger bond. When you’re just dating, you don’t usually spend enough time with any one person to truly get to know them. When you stay in a committed relationship, you can become very close to one another, sometimes to the point that your partner is like an extension of yourself.
When you’re in a monogamous relationship you don’t have to keep trying to impress new people. Dating can be insane, trying to find someone that you have something in common with that you’re attracted to. If you’re in a committed relationship, they already love you, you don’t need to keep impressing them, and you know they’re not going to turn you down.
In a truly monogamous relationship the risk of getting a disease drops drastically. If you and your partner are only having sex with each other, and you’re both free of disease or take precautions to prevent transmitting pre-existing disease, you know you’re safe. Even with the use of prophylactics, there is no guarantee that you won’t catch a disease from someone you’re dating.
Now, these are just a few of the many reasons why being in a committed relationship is better than dating. I’m sure anyone who’d been in a long-term relationship could give you more. And the thing is, monogamous doesn’t necessarily mean married. Loads of people have long-term relationships without being married. I know that a lot of people fear the commitment of marriage, and that’s why they choose dating. Just remember that you don’t need to be legally bound to someone to be in a committed relationship with them.
