How often have you turned on the TV after a rough day at work and thought to yourself: “I should turn on the Disney Channel.”
You may want to change your habits, as one of the best shows on television is Phineas and Ferb – a cartoon centered around two kids during spring break and their pet platypus.
Brief Phineas and Ferb Plotlines
Phineas and Ferb are two step brothers that try to fill their summer vacation days with “bucket list” type shenanigans. Presumably brilliant, the two are able to build, create, or find anything they need to enjoy these activities in a montage. Though they are rarely causing any trouble, their sister Candice tries her best to foil their plans by calling their mom, who thinks it is merely a product of their child-like imaginations.
During this time, an evil scientist named Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz tries to do evil things to the “Tri-State Area.” Yet every time he is foiled by Secret Agent Perry the Platypus – a butt kicking semi-aquatic mammal whose alter ego is the mild mannered mindless pet of Phineas and Ferb.
Why Phineas and Ferb is Amazing – And Why Adults Will Love It
Phineas and Ferb uses a style of humor that even adults without children can appreciate. The show has a considerable amount of subtle humor, including running gags where the show vaguely references characters and events from other shows in ways that most children won’t connect.
In addition, many of the jokes require a brief second of thought to realize things like a clever play-on-words (“Behold! The Platyproliferatorinator!”) or a sarcastic reference to events that happen to adults in real life.
Adults watch TV shows to be entertained. While Phineas and Ferb is entertaining, it doesn’t have the appeal of a show like Glee or NCIS – shows that have complicated storylines and arguably outstanding acting. Yet one of the things we take for granted as we get older is the value of surrounding yourself with light hearted people. Phineas and Ferb is a light hearted TV show, and all of the characters are equally light hearted and likeable.
After a long day at work dealing with all the stresses of everyday life, enjoying a light hearted comedy like Phineas and Ferb has tremendous benefit. As long as you are willing to deal with the Hannah Montana adds that pop up regularly, Phineas and Ferb should be one of the TV shows you watch on a regular basis.
