Since the beginning of time man has thought, numerous times, that the world was going to end. The media, and popular TV channels have publicized the theory of 2012 a lot. The reason for this is, so they can make money. People are fascinated with the world ending in 2012. It is just human nature for people to be fascinated with such a thing. All though there are no facts that say the world will end in 2012, people are still drawn to this theory. Why is this? Because people love drama, and are drawn to the unknown.
The Mayan calendar ends in December, 2012 solely because it is the end of a cycle. The Mayans don’t believe that the world will end in 2012. They believe that after 2012 the golden age era will begin. The Mayans believe that the golden age will be full of peace and harmony. This doesn’t mean that the world is going to end in 2012. That is a ridiculous thought, after all the creators of the calendar say nothing of the sort. They predict that after 2012 things will only get better. For the Mayans, it is a huge celebration that there culture will make it to the end of the cycle. They are excited for 2012. The Mayans made the Mayan calendar. This being said, why do people listen to all of the outlandish theories that the media feeds people? Why wouldn’t people listen to what the Mayans say?
2012 is not the worlds first doomsday prophecy. There have been doomsday prophecies since ancient times. Every single time, these prophecies have been unfulfilled. If you go to Wikipedia you will see a rather large list of doomsday prophecies. Each of these times, just like now, people have been sure that the world would end. People don’t listen to logic, or factual information, instead they listen to theories, and unreliable resources. To me, it is ridiculous that so many people actually think that the world will end in 2012. It is to often that people assume things. It is also to often that people don’t listen to “the horses mouth”, and instead listen to people who don’t know what they are talking about.
People believe that the poles will shift, that an asteroid will hit earth, along with several other silly theories. First and foremost the poles shift every day. All though they shift constantly, it is so tiny of a shift that it isn’t even noticeable. It would be impossible for the poles to make such a drastic shift, that would cause the end of the world. Second, NASA monitors outer space with highly advanced telescopes constantly. They have not found any type of asteroid headed directly towards us. Conspiracy theorists say that if there was an asteroid headed for earth they would not tell us. This may be true, but don’t you think one of the several people that knew about this, would leak that information? The men who work for NASA have families, they would surely tell their wives, and their wives would tell their family, and friends and so on. If there was an asteroid headed for earth, we would know, point blank. The event that happened at Roswell is a perfect example, high ranked military personnel came forward and claimed they recovered a UFO. The Bob Lazar case is another good example, he claimed that he was helping the government reverse engineer alien space crafts. Some one would most definitely leak information about an asteroid headed for earth. Not only for the money, but for the publicity. The earth has been through 5 ice ages, and many other catastrophes, yet it is still here. We are also still here, and that will not change in 2012.
